The MultiSampla Rock Pack
Hi everyone !
As you might know already, I'm making some samples that I put for free (here in Mu.Lab specific format and in "Samples, Sampling and Sample Libraries" forum, for other formats.

The very first impression when you try Mu.Lab is that is a program mainly targeted to electronic music and recording.
Some people might lack the very usual rock, pop, blues or jazz tools, like acoustic drums, real basses and some guitars for people that can not afford recording equipment or just lack the guitar skills but have ideas and inspiration for rock songs.
So, having this idea in mind I offer some help that maybe can be included in the Mu.Lab 3 or as a separate pack as an official freebie on Mu.Tools website.

GUITARS for Mu.Lab 3

Image

Electric Guitar Power Chords.
Stereo recorded Epiphone SG Special guitar, like this one ->http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?Pro ... ctionID=16

Samples at 44.1 KHz samplerate, 24 bit, stereo.
Two guitars for every chord (left and right, different amps), beside distortion and amp, samples are dry so you can add your own reverb or delay or whatever you might want.
Patch Description
From D1 to Bb2 long power chords.
B2 - Slide on low strings
C3 - Slide with guitar pick on the strings
C#3 - Flageolet on G string, sound like feedback from amp
From D3 to Bb4 muted and short chords on two dynamic layers (soft=muted, hard=short chord, hard attack).

Acoustic Guitar Strums.
Fender CD-60CE Nat major and minor chords, one strum and muted strums so you can make your own patterns.

Samples at 44.1 KHz samplerate, 24 bit, mono.
Samples are dry so you can add your own reverb or delay or whatever you might want. If you want the guitars to sound stereo, I suggest getting ADT vst and put it on the acoustic guitar's channel.
Patch Description
From C2 to B2 long major chords, down stroke.
From C3 to B3 muted and short major chords, up stroke, on two dynamic layers (soft=muted, hard=short chord, hard attack).
From C4 to B4 long minor chords, down stroke.
From C5 to B5 muted and short minor chords, up stroke, on two dynamic layers (soft=muted, hard=short chord, hard attack).

GET IT HERE

More to come:
Drums
Real acoustic drums, multi layered. That lacks (to me) in Mu.Lab.
The drums planned are a "Pearl" set, quite vintage (made in 1984) with Paiste cymbals.
Electric Bass
An Ibanez K5 featuring active Dynamix pickups.

I think something like that would be great, and very helpful. Personally, I'm more interested in the bass and drums, as I already play guitar. :)

If you can keep the quality up and the size reasonable, I think think this is a wonderful idea!

Normally, I'd say I'd want any drum kit (a) mapped to Natural Studio mappings and (b) playable live; however, I don't see that being the motivation here: it's to get people writing music that uses these instruments when they can't play them. So keep them simple enough to be effective. (Having CC4 control of the hi-hat, for instance, is a luxury here.)

Post

I'll map them to GM mapping so you can use them live, eventually with a electronic drum pad kit.
I'm aware that are a lot of plugins, many free (some guy was counting all the free drum machines and three months ago he posted 80 links).
My goal is to provide a solution to work with the built in instruments, so the program gets more stable.
Many people encountered crashes when using third party plugins.
I want to get a decent balance between stability, size and usability.

The acoustic guitar strums would be in interest to me. I have completed a project already, but the one thing I still need is a bit of guitar notes.
I definitely want to try it.

Thanks,

It's a wonderfull idea !
I'm interested in the drums and guitars, amd maybe the bass if it sounds good.
And the GM mapping is the best choice.
Thank you !

I don't think you'll get a "No" in your poll, there's no reason to refuse such a pack :)

Post

Acoustic Drums would be great! I've been myself thinking about sampling my bass and making a preset for multisampla. Maybe in the following weeks.

the quality is something that reasonable when we talk about file size.
and yes. third party plugins sometime is very not stable.
so I vote for YES, it's a good idea.

anyway, your Christmas gift is great!
:D

Thanx everyone for the feedback.
I'm currently recording the electric guitars, later on I'll go with the acoustic one.
Bass will be a bit later, for now I'm recording and mixing several bands and only after we finish with that I can take the bass from the bass player :)

Meanwhile I'll make some more small freebies (like the Christmas packs) from some small instruments.

haven't downloaded the pack yet, but i've heard the demo song and i must say: GREAT JOB on the guitars!

not to everyone's taste of course, but certainly very useful for people in need of a quick hard rock/metal riff. maybe you could also distribute a pack of clean guitar chords in order to let the users apply custom amp and cab sims?

all in all, thanks sorohanro!

Thanx.
Well, there is here also the early state of the project, using only Mu.Lab's instruments and my guitar pack.
The new track I made using other VSTi and samples (EW Free Symphonic, Kontakt Player for the bass and tons of VST effects, all free).

That was the main idea, to keep it simple and as small as possible but providing basic features (like different attacks multi layered).

AYE !!! don't ask me that... I spent several days cutting all takes into 3 basic attacks (long, short and muted) and make a simple to use patch.
However, if you think you can do better I can upload the original tracks (already cleaned up and named by note), but I warn you that is a lot of work to cut them out and patch them.
Also, as clean guitars doesn't sound too good. Several clipped ugly in my preamp because I wanted to squeeze all the possible volume.

Well, you're welcome. Make sure you get the other sample packs I made for free ;)

pleaaase noooo! :D

i know how hard it is to do this kind of stuff, i've sampled a bunch of instruments from and old casio and used them to make a free soundfont. it was serious hard labour. i haven't played with that casio ever since.

most importantly, your guitars don't need improvement, they're great for hard rock!
