Bits n' Pieces - Yeager ... Good perc sounds for starters ... thick solid bass and good quality sounds all round, good varied composition and good production. love the 'munch' on the attack of a couple of those sounds.
Fast n' Slow - Yeager ... Nice creamy thump on the bottom end, lovely syrupy sounds, and again, good percs. Interesting and engaging composition .. and even a bit of Rolf on the wobbleboard!! Great track! Stunning even!
Flex n' Morph - V'ger ... Stunning! regardless of how I've chopped and changed the thrust of my voting criteria, this track has remained outstanding among a great collection. I love how the sounds are evolving constantly, and moving around boisterously, and yet a sense of free space remains. The percussion is well thought out and composed with as much attention as the rest of the mix. Also love the edge to some of the sounds and how they have been tamed in the mix rather than edited out. A dynamic and exciting track which has screamed for 10 points since I first heard it.
Flex n' Primative - AbstractCats ... Sparse but interesting track which retains a tension which lends power to the occasional 'fantasy organ' sound (..for want of a better description cos it's actually difficult to pin down between a blown or plucked/struck type instrument ) .Some of the sounds have a cool wood-to-plastic-to-glass shift, which is very much a character trait of FNS. play this one loud for best results!!
Flex n' Stars - AbstractCats ... Excellent intro for starters! All sounds have a cool assertive quality, some having a grainy edge ... not a bad composition, not the best, but there is no doubt that this is FNS4
Flex n' Dance - Totolitoto ... Stunning! Fluid sounds, good percs ... bit Kraftwerky, but that never harmed anyone in this comp.... and rightly so, ( and Kraftwerky in terms of their best stuff! ) Great use of what FNS does best. Would and should say more, but its hard to write while listening to this one.... but to say its gonna get at least 3 points perhaps says enough.
Flex n' Stains - K-Bee ... the 'fluffyness' of the bass and kick seems odd at first, and then it all falls into perspective! Nice sweeping pad, and a pleasing warmth all round. It feels too short ... which is a good thing bearing in mind it is 2 and a half mins!
Flex n' Steins Lab ... great glassy melody kick off with, really nice bass, cool hand drums, and that low growly sound, and then it changes again!!! and ...yeah! This one has grown on me lots!
Flexible Friends ... the simplicity of the intro is appealling, and the sounds are as I would expect from FNS ... particularly that 'meowing'! .... some nice chunky sounds in there. The progress of the track reads like a story ... I can almost see a cartoon adventure running alongside.. good use of stereo adds to this illusion of a series of events.... and nice to 'see' the clangers joining in!
Fnsintro - dwsel ... oooh that explosive sound! ... nice ... and the creepy bass! .... not bad at all for an intro! ... certainly good enough to make me wish there was more to come!
The Brightest Star - mac of BIOnight - Lovely lead! ... and modulated within an inch of its life to produce a range of sounds on its own from cats, elec guitar, Tuvan throat singing, and organ, great sounds all round, good production, and composition cool ... if a little too pentatonic ... lovely rich track.
Midnight Hatsize - jon boyd ... This track 'pounds'! ... great slippery lead sounds ... bass sounds perhaps a teensy bit on the heavy side, but hypnotic and engaging throughout!
The CheeseFlex - Mouxbar ... Whatever the vote, wins the prize for most Flex n' Steinish track! there's metal, wood, air, plastic, glass and stone and string in there ... and the composition has strains of early Public Image ... so there's a point for this one at least! ... which is not a lot, but more than 12 others will get!
The Conversation - Morflex ... Stunning! So atmospheric and dramatic! ... and gets second place for most FNSish sounding track! The percussion is great in that there is a good integrity between the sounds... and that steamy/detuned radio sound is well good! Good composition and production as well, but this track's points will come from the sounds used more than anything else with such a strong field.
Waltz - mrblitz000 ... Great sounds ... got that glass, metal, wood range covered ( with a hint of air! ), and cool melodic interplay! A few more sounds as good as these would have had this track knocking on the door for points!
An attention gripping wee track for sure with it's clever little runs!
Ahem... ( clears throat! )
So, I have to make a hard decision after having the pleasure of such a great collection of tracks .... and all the harder when I listen to some again and wonder if I've called it right ... especially when I compare any which have not made the top 5 and wonder 'How can there be a 10 point difference between that little beauty and any other track??'
10 points - Flex n' Morph
5 points - Flex n' Dance
3 points - The Conversation
2 points - Fast n' Slow
1 points - The CheeseFlex
Special mention for .... bloody well all of them! ... I'll shut up now, except propose that in future comps, the developer gets twice as many votes!
