Problem installing unsupported vsts'

Hey Kevin,

Thanks for trying this out as well on your own equipment. So you have two Receptors? Nice. I keep almost upgrading to a Receptor 2 but then always end up going with something else. My latest acquisition was a Roland V-Synth GT to go along with my XT. Great couple of instruments, but I'm thinking my next buy will definitely be an upgrade to a Receptor 2 Pro.

Thanks again for looking into this!

Hi Again,

Yeah - I do use one Receptor (Receptor 1, Rev C) for occasional gigging, and both for rendering bands in a project Studio. Performance wise, the upgrade is like around 30% improvement over my Receptor 1. It is a rather expensive upgrade - but for studio applications, I find the speed and expanded disc size more important. Organizationally, it helps me to designate roles (eg Receptor 1: Percussion, Receptor 2: Guitars, Basses) to independent machines. These are also UniWired into a ProTools DAW (various levels of success).

Is P8 consistently rebooting on you when you bring up the editor (or occasionally)? Receptor 2/OS 8 is using an entirely different Linux / WINE / set of windows dlls, so I think the real test will be bringup on OS 1.7.

Sounds like a nice studio setup! Yes, my Receptor 1 is resetting every single time I try to enter the edit screen for the P8.

I'm anxious to read what your results are.

Hi Steve,

OK - Now things are getting interesting.

So I loaded Superwave and Tarkus both on Receptor 1 Pro (Rev C), OS 1.7. As you said, both reset the Receptor UI when trying to open their editors. Both plugs do play audio, and change presets from the Receptor interface, but seem to crash the UI when launching the plugin editor.

I looked back at my System Log, and saw the following suspicious message:
Jan 6 17:27:01 KTL-Recep-1 rm-host: wine: Unhandled exception (thread 000b), starting debugger...
So this is where you should file a service desk ticket with Muse (and let the pro's debug it ;) ). Explain that the same plugin works on 1.8, and not 1.7.

Sorry I can't help much further, but know that these plugs can work on some platforms.

Regards,
Kevin L

PS. These plugs sound quite nice. Too bad they don't have more modulation options.

Superwave P8 (vers 1.6) works fine on my Receptor 1 Rev C (OS 1.7). In fact, that is the first plugin I test when I experiment with different versions of Linux running Wine...it seems bullet proof (i.e. it always works).

Hi John,

Hmmm - that's interesting, thanks for reporting. To the best of your recollection - did you need to add any .dll's to get this working on 1.7? I didn't need to change anything on Receptor 2 OS 1.8. I'm wondering if there is some other kind of conflict going on?

Kevin L

Edit: Ahh - looks like lots of (SuperWave P8 ) version changes. I downloaded the latest (V.2.0) and tested this. The site offers DLs all the way back to v 1.7. Steve, you may wish to try an earlier version of SuperWave on your Receptor 1.

I just threw it (the .dll only) into the "Unsupported Plugins" folder. The only thing I would suggest is to delete every Muse generated file that was created for the plugin, and install again.

If you want or need to, request the "Bank and Patches Fixer" file from Muse support, which will then allow you to delete stuff from those normally-untouchable folders. Works great.

Kevin and John,

Thanks to both of you for all your help. Just woke up this morning and saw your discussion form last night. As soon as I get back home from work, I plan to load each version sequentially from newest to oldest to see where it goes wrong.

Again, I can't thank you enough. I have been looking for a good VST to mimic the VA portion of my V-Synths (GT and XT) and the P8 with its "Supersaw" copy is pretty darn close, plus to my ears the sound quality of the P8 is stellar. Pretty amazing that it is free.

Anyone know what the major, if any, differences are between all the Superwave "Pro" products. For instance, once I get the P8 working and am convinced to throw Superwave some cash, which would be in your opinion the Pro version of the P8. Lots to choose from!

Kevin and John,

Last night I loaded the Superwave P8 vs. 1.9 and it was a no-go. Same with vs. 1.8. Ready to start drinking, I finally went back to vs. 1.7 and it loaded and displayed the editor just fine! So, hooray for older versions of software! I did however also load the trial for the Superwave Pro as I had every intention on purchasing it, but lo and behold, it also would not open the editor page.

So, to the designer of the Superwave synths, you may want to work out this bug as it may be keeping people at bay from purchasing one of your premium instruments if they own a Receptor Vs. 1.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Hi all, I have been trying to install P8 and/or P80 on my Rev C (OS 1.7)

I have tried all the different versions available at Superwave (there are several of each)

Everytime I drop the DLLs in the Unsupported Plugins folder I get this in the log:

Line 37849: Oct 22 15:51:45 Receptor-1 rm-host: ../win32/LoadVst.cpp::LoadWindowsVst[131]: todo - translate win error 126, path '/c/Program Files/VST Plugins/Unsupported Plugins/P80.dll'

Any tips would be appreciated, no idea what this error means.

Thanks

Dylan
