Are sponsors allowed to enter?
Yes!! :) ... if you win your own prize, or a prize you already have, you can, as is often done, pass it down .. and hope for better luck next time :)
... The higher you achieve, the greater the choice of prize(s).

Usually the prizes are limited to between a quarter and a third of all entrants, depending on the amount of available prizes of course, but if there are a lot of 'pass ons' we can have prize winners further down the chart. :)

Then I will enter this one.

Last one I stayed out - not sure if I was allowed to create a song or two.

Great stuff karmacomposer ... wishing you all the best of luck with your track(s) :)

Post

I'm opting out of this one, sorry
It's not because I got no votes in the last osc btw   I'll just stick to my usual stuff for a while, while gearing up for the Synth1 anniversary challenge (we're still doing that right?)

Post

Not sure if it was discussed in earlier OSCs, but is it fair to enter multiple tracks? I'm bitching because I'm not THAT productive :D

Uploaded...

However not a very "normal" one:

"Enable Smiling" --- but it actually sounds more like a very creazy smiling :3 (3:14)

Done with 10 instances of Rogue
+ a little bit of "reverbering" on the lead synths coming in later in the track.
Used Cubase Studio 5 as host.

---but now, after hearing it the 500 time, i think it is missing something :?
maybe i will overwork it on another day.

(feels a little bit panic with all the new people joining :3, no more winning for me!)
Wow
Crazy track
Sounds like a robot jazz band!
I love it  :D

Post

This is my first time entering one of these :D just uploaded my entry.

Gone Rogue - Rellik

I'll be honest, it's kind of lazy in terms of repetition, but it's a very fun tune with very cool sounds, IMO! Thanks to Rogue :D (btw, listen to it loud :P)

Hmm... I might have a go at this, though I'm doubtful that I can produce anything to match the entries already submitted (Rellik's is particularly good).

Just wondering about -
tattiemannie wrote:The use of Fx will be limited to [snip] Delay ( unmodulated )
Does this mean that you can't use host automation to mess around with the delay times and other controls of a basic delay, or is it a ban on use of delays that have, say, an lfo to vary delay, panning etc?

Put another way, would it be okay to use something like TAL-Dub-II?

Post

Cheers for the submission Rellik :) .. and best of luck in the comp!

Hakey, you've plenty time to produce something you will be proud of :)
Host automation of fx settings is fine. The most important rule re fx is the part about transforming sounds to the point they are 'unrepresentative of that produced by the featured synth' .. so use your discretion.

I would generally discourage modulated delays as they have the potential to transform the character of sounds... however, used in a subtle manner, they can be acceptable as enhancement/production tools.
LFO on the panning is OK. I dont view auto panning, whether of a synths output, or the delayed signal as a significant sound transforming technique.

To further clarify, there is no ban on using plugs which have an LFO to modulate delay time .. the issue is what you do with that facility :)

But dont let it worry you, just go build a track :)

Nice one Rellik!

How are we all over here? :)
Aaaah it's nice to be done with last comp and concentrating fully on this one... but ...!! .....Have you OSC11 xmas compers seen Karmacomposers discount offer on the xmas comp thread? .... :-o .... I would have bought it by now if I didn't have a good feeling about winning this comp ... :box: :box: :)

Post

OK, time to catch up a bit.
I'm opting out of this one, sorry
Aw, sorry to hear that K-Bee .... but good luck with whatever you're doing instead .... and look forward to you returning with a vengeance with your Synth1 track :) ... hope you find time in between to keep tabs on the present comp though.
Not sure if it was discussed in earlier OSCs, but is it fair to enter multiple tracks? I'm bitching because I'm not THAT productive
Yeah, well I did think about that, and had suggested a 'strategic withdrawal' option for multiple entrants ... actually on the presumption that having two or more tracks in the comp could work to one's disadvantage rather than what you suggest.
However, following a few comments, I had a good look at the situation again and adjudged that there is neither advantage nor disadvantage in said situation.
Where a participant has ended up with more than one track in a prizewinning position, in every case those participants have accepted only one prize, or passed all onto the next in line :) ... even though it is my view that if you put in the graft and come up with the goods, you are welcome to everything that entitles you to.

Also, there have been comps in the past where multiple entries have kept the total number of tracks above the embarrassing level :hihi:

So, yeah I realise there's a strong seasoning of humour in your post, but seriously, I see no reason to limit submissions per person.

... and as I said, there is no apparent advantage to multiple submissions, so if you can only come up with one, .... just be sure its a stunner and leave the rest of us with our multiple entries fighting over the scraps :hihi:

Post

Still catching up .... and my apologies hakey, I responded at length to your query re fx without answering the simple, direct question at the end of your post

Can you use TAL DUB II? Answer, yes you can ... provided you abide by that 'over-transformation' advice, and stay sane with that LFO on the delay time :)
The plug ( IIRC ) has been used in this comp before, so if I ban it now, I would have to look back and retrospectively strip folks of their votes/titles/prizes .... and to be honest, I cant be ar*sed :hihi:

Good luck with the track :)

Post

OK, missed the start of this thread. Ever heard about the blonde who was staring at a bottle of orange juice for hours? It said concentrate on the outside... :hihi:

Your third track is Ice Cold In Alex. As ever, Fruity DAW and normal raft of Kjaerhus effects. So simple even I can use them. :help:

Named after the famous Brit flick set somewhere in North Africa. The lead line kind of picked up that feel as I found the synth would make a nice noise if I pressed one note and "fluttered" one on top of it. Another thing learnt 8)

Thanks to the prize contributors as well. You're doing a great job for our humble efforts. 8)

Best of luck,
Mouxbar
