"MuseBox features incredibly flexible I/O, with front-panel guitar and microphone inputs, MIDI, and four USB ports. Musicians can play with it, sing through it, process keyboards, play along to backing tracks, and of course, create lush keyboard sounds with a MIDI controller. Guitarists can use it to run their favorite amp modeling software, multi-effects libraries and more. Singers can enhance their vocals with reverb, compression, de-essing and pitch correction in real time. Keyboardists can run virtual pianos and other instruments with super-low latency and superb stability."

And what about drummers, who might only want to install Toontrack Superior 2.0 and Steven Slate Drums into a compact, sturdy box and then trigger it? Any joy here for such poor, tormented souls?

There will be a drum solution for MuseBox but what plugin or plugins that may is still to be determined.

So, Musebox will not allow one to install one's own plugins?

Does the new MuseBox provide SSE2 support?

any news?
i'd love to know about the cpu.

MuseBox will install plugins from an FC card we will sell, the list of what will be availble is still to be determined. However over time plugins would be added.

Rick tell me if this is wrong, but I think the release date is set for "probably" May, June, or July 2010.

I think Muse Reseach wants you think of it more as a sound module running their included sounds and effects rather than a general VST host because
1) it isn't trivial to get all the VSTi's out there running on custom hardware
2) processing is somewhat limited (e.g. no Omnisphere), and
3) because authenticating on custom hardware isn't trivial.

So although it is designed to allow you to try to upload your own plugins, they're shipping it with included sounds and effects, and are probably not going to make many promises about what VSTi's will run on it until they try them out themselves.

It might be asking too much, but if it can handle a fairly large Kontakt plugin (like Akoustik Piano-turned KoreSound) and a simple Massive ensemble, I'll be a very happy camper!

Thanks for the info Rick.

So, plugins that are compatible with Receptor won't necessarily be compatible with the MuseBox?

Post

is this basically a stripped down, 1/2 size receptor?

Post

There will indeed be some plug-ins that require too much system resources (like omnisphere) to run on the Musebox. Also we prefer the term 'receptor for the rest of us' here. One big departure from the Receptors is that it will have a really simple and easy to use interface where SOUNDS are the focus, not the plugin vendors etc..the idea behind this being that people who are less familiar with the whole plug-in culture can jump right in and start making sounds..

What about large instruments like 'Ivory' and 'Kontakt'? Are they able to run on a MuseBox? And would we be able to adjust plugin parameters with the front panels knobs/buttons, like on a Receptor?

Post

We've already tested Ivory and it runs great, not sure if any test has been done with Kontakt yet.
