T2 and T3 work well for me, so while Id like to see a 4 its no biggie.

After Jules transferred/sold/donated PPMulator to a German company,

"PPMulator+ was formerly developed and distributed by raw material software Ltd. zplane assumes distribution and all further developments for this succesful and convincing plugin.",
I received another email inviting me to upgrade, naturlich, and re-authenticate my existing licenses to their validation servers. I have done this and I can report no trouble with the new authentication, as long as zplane.de stay in business.

What Tracktion users need is an assurance from LOUD that the validation servers for T1,2 & 3 will not evaporate. The cost of running such a system would not be great and I would certainly pay another $10 toward knowing my software can be transferred to new computers, probably still running XP. Hell, Ben could run it out of his laundry room!

Of course, LOUD should just email a generic keyfile to every registered owner of T1-NFR, T2 & T3 on the sorry day they finally remove all traces of Tracktion from their websites.

It might be possible to re-invent the rusty toothed wheel in the Linux world, as another open source app - I now use Ubuntu while internet browsing and having Firefox is comfortable on both platforms but Audacity is hopeless. Most DAWs are still mixer simulators, even PreSonus' newincarnation of Kristol, but Tracktion v1 was truly a computer sound editor from the first line of code. Tracktion's look-and-feel needs developing further.

Finally, it's easy to rag on Mackie as just another Behringer but they didn't start the race to the bottom or the recession, they're trying to survive and hooking up with Avid makes sense to their accountants - beats selling the whole company to Shanghai Electric. I hope to hear LOUD sees some kind of useful revenue in Tracktion's future.

No such thing as a generic keyfile - it's tied into your computer's machine ID - which is based on specific things about your computer - so it'd either be a crack or a keygen or a modified installer. And I doubt supporting tracktion or tracktion users is their no 1. priority in that event.
BTW before anybody goes getting any crazy ideas, the only keygen out there at the moment has a pretty horrible virus in it.

Well we have spent many years together and T has served me well.

However, I think I've seen the future of DAWs and it's called Studio One.

Yeah, Studio One indeed looks very intriguing and I'm following the boards closely. Looking for an alternative to use on my latop besides Cubase (my main DAW)), hate them dongles lol. Only thing that's holding me back is there seems to be a lot of unresolved issues still being new and all. Will be keeping a close lookout for version 2 :)

The build of S1 that I'm using is dated 12/09 Current version is 1.02.10891 and thus far - one day! - has been rock solid - I am very impressed.

Thanks for the feedback Integratron! Have you tried using it on a latop yet. curious of it's CPU and memory consumption. Just picked up a Dell Inspiron, Windows 7 and an intel dual core inside, 4 gigs DDR2 ram. Don't plan on installing any 3rd party plugins, let's face it, laptops aren't nearly as powerful as a desktop so I'll be relying mostly on the native plugs if any at all.

TIA

Congrats on the new Dell - I love their stuff - I'm running on an Inspiron 530 Core 2 Duo desktop; I don't have a lappy. As long as it has a fast HDD, be sure to optimize for audio.

Tons of native (64 bit!) plugs, very logical intuitive learning curve and work flow, uber power does cost a few more CPU cycles than T.

Best would be to install the demo and give it a spin - nothing ventured, nothing gained.

ok - so i'm coming back swinging - i jumped into tracktion 3 two years ago, but left the beast cause of my fear of the product simply not being supported - but today i said WTF, i saw musician's freinds blowing out tracktion 3 ultimate bundles at $19.99(includes a 4 hour training video!!)

ha ha - i mean even if all i do is eak out one soundtrack with the thing (and i do love the workflow) then i've made my purchase price back about 500 times

the bundle has a ton-o-shit, including GPO - which rocks!!

a great buy...at the eclipse of bye-bye to tracktion...a final funeral offering at the deadly price of $19.99 - yup sounds final

my plan for survival - i'm going to set up one dell 390 quad to run it on - and another dell 390 to 'hold' a key forever - if mackie kills its support to generate keys before my 2 dells die then i will offer tracktion 3 up as cyber-fill when my two dells die...and i just betcha i'll still feel satified with the 20 bucks i have spent today...(remember every girlfriend you ever hope to have will grow old and die...trick is enjoying the time you both have together!)

come-on $20 is an amazing funeral price - dive in before it's too late...forever

(ha ha, cause if they are blowing out the ultimate bundle at $19.99...then you can sure bet your momma that there ain't no tracktion 4 ever coming round the hopeful corner that we've all been peaking from...ain't that the truth - though i'd love to be proven wrong...and the beat goes on...)

Thanks for the tip, I may pick up this as well. Be sure to install the latest version 3.0.4.8 as the version that ships on the disc is flaky iirc. I still use Tracktion to import tracks from CDs to jam with. Easy to import (Ableton Live can't do this) and also tune the track to your guitar or whatever instrument you like. Good luck. 8)
