More obvious difference between real and ghost copies

I think MULAB could improve the way it represents real parts and ghost copies with a more obvious difference between them. Here is a suggestion:

In this mock-up the parts marked with (1) are ghost copies and the ones with (2) are real ones.

I think the current "3D" effect doesn't really work, I can never remember which is which.

That's a nice suggestion :)

I agree M can use an improvement regarding this aspect.

Great :)

Nice, looks ghostly (dim).

I experimented with this.

Thing is that it gets confusing when parts are selected and/or parts using the same sequence have different colors.

Because then the part title back color doesn't clearly tell you whether it's a real or ghost part:

There is one part selected. Is it a real or a ghost part? Difficult to see, right?

As you can see i also experimented with drawing the part name in the center instead of at the left. Think i like it. What about you?

Hi Jo,

Do you mean "Real" is left titled and "Ghost" is titled center. (or the other way around or whatever).

Looks good when a part is zoomed in. So you can see Left or center.

Look at Branis picture KraftBase(1) "in red" looks centered but it is actually left titled.

hope this makes sense.

No i just experimented with showing the part name in the center of the part, independent of it being a real or ghost part.

I liked Branis mockup, but when trying it out i stumbled upon the issue reported above.

Other ideas welcome as i agree that the current way of differentiating reals/ghosts can be improved.

What about putting some sort of crosshatching pattern on the title bar of the ghost copy? That way you can distinguish even when it is selected and it is obvious enough to see without being 'in yer face'.

Maybe something like this for the selected ghost copy?

That's still pretty subtle though. It would be good to be able to see at a glance which clip is which on the timeline. That's why I thought a title bar pattern, like a crosshatch would be useful.

Just ideas.

Real = normal font style. Ghost = Italic, or bold, or another font, or size.

That could be a simple, but effective solution, I like it :)

Back to Jo's idea of centered text for all.

Probably looks good when centered zoom in/out.

Unfortunately the gui system doesn't support italic/bold text.

Can the Corners of the Ghost be Chopped? Just a touch. Or Rounded?
A little Triangle in the Part's Name?
Brackets for the Ghost Name?
