Rogue

Post

In the interests of transparency (showing my working) and fairness I've added a load of Rogue drum samples to the Skanky Patches file, including all of the samples that I used in my track, along with many of the corresponding patches.

The samples are pure Rogue; save for cropping, I've done no additional processing. They're not all brilliant by any means, but I think there are some decent-ish drum machine sounds in there (the Real Toms and Snare 2 are probably the best of the lot). They could do with normalising and eqing to taste (I did attempt batch normalising in Audacity, but couldn't work out how to save them as separate samples?).

I agree, that would certainly contravene the 'transformation beyond the recognisable' rule, though formant filtering could be achieved using host eqing (Live's EQ8, for example) - using a mutliband eq and host automation, and given enough time, I'm sure that someone could make Rogue 'talk' .

(forgive me, I'm sure that this isn't the case, but you weren't suggesting that I've used a formant filter in my track? - I'm not up on my emoticon usage, what does an upside down smiley mean? :? EDIT: Oh, sorry, I get it, you were talking about "Rogue Dub - No-Use". Well, at least he was upfront about it and, tbh, if he hadn't said anything I wouldn't have been any the wiser. It is a nice track - I do like the dubby flavour :) )

Couldn't see that one on the KVR Pugin Database - is it the same as Psychic Modulation's Photon, perchance?

.. yeah, thats the one! :)

Uhmm.... I should have been clearer even when I was joking only (sorry for my pathetic sense of humour).

Upside down smile meant that I don't feel using Ambience is such a big OSC-rule-breaker compared to deadly-sin :o commited by No-Use who made Rogue speak :o Dub track itself is nice though :) Now I see that using in OSC plugins of unknown status is walking on a slippery slope of our challenge rules :scared:

And that turned upside head can also mean lately dizzy state of my mind ;)

Maybe the winner of previous OSC should choose synth for the next comp (from that list you posted)?

Thats not a bad idea actually, although not everything on the list has been checked out and known to work with a good variety of hosts.

If there's support for your idea dwsel, I'm sure it could be adapted in some way to make sure it works out :)

Maybe the person who comes last should get to chose the synth (from the approved list).

Indeed, it's hard to be classed as donationware when donations are not possible.. :P But as that was the official term I stayed away from it and as a result did find some interesting alternatives being forced to go through the list of freewares.

Ok I choose hm.. let's see.. how about Synth1? :D

That's possibly a slighter better version of dwsels idea MajorBloodnok :hihi:

Post

I like the idea of the last place entry choosing the next synth.

Got the guts of my track done at last ... and I have to say I underestimated this little beast! ... It's not the easiest to get particular sounds from, but with a bit of perseverence and experimentation, some good stuff coming out! :)

Uhm, yeah it was me using the formant filter...
I can totally understand that this is at least "questionable", but I don't think that I used it in a way to "transform a sound beyond unregognisable"...
(But I can totally accept if I would get disqualified nonetheless).

Anyways, this was my first OSC entry and I promise I will do better next time.

Dont worry No_use ... I think it's inevitable that folks newer to OSC may find the rules a bit hazy. I try to keep them brief, assuming that folks have read, or participated in previous discussions and therefore can apply the finer details ... but there's been a lot of threads now, so even I would find it a hassle to find all the links which might provide fuller info.

However, if anyone yet to participate is reading this, then the best advice i can give is to ask if they are not sure.

I certainly dont want to write the rules up like a legal document and scare folks off :)

Anyway, you're not the first to squeeze in something 'questionable' to an OSC track, whether erroneously or otherwise, and I'm sure you wont be the last :hihi:

Well, nice to see it's quiet :) ... I'm heading off to a gig, got 3 between now and tuesday, so wont be around as much ... catch you when I can.

Good luck with those tracks :)

Pretty busy as well as I got my first child!! (well the woman did ;)) :phew:
Pretty stoked as you can imagine. He came the day the OSC prize came in the mail, so might nickname him after it, just not sure it will be Minimonsta or Melloman yet as he's sleeping most of the time for now..

Anyway, have some ideas already started which can probably be submitted as a track if I can make a sort of arrangement of them, proper mixing and polishing will probably be left out though.

But have fun on your gigs Tattiemannie, I envy you the live playing. Although I did a stint of that before and remember thinking at the time it was a chore with all the rigging etc, but rose-tinted glasses and all that.. 8)

V'ger, Congratulations! Life will never be the same again (in a good way)!

And what your Rogue track may or may not lack in production you've more than made up for it with ... er... reproduction. :hihi:
