Am I the only one feeling like this but it seems that I didn't saw that much interesting news from NAMM this year. I hope that it's not the sign of a dead year in new developments.

What is your opinion and what's your inside info if any?

Thanx for all input.

Wow, that much opinions!

Is KVR dead now?

could be they already said what they had to here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=275408 ;)

Depending on what your expectations or fantasies were vs. the reality of the status of the industry vs. economy, then NAMM was not overwhelmingly mindblowing.

Eigenharp and Moog guitar were cool.
Lots of new variations-on-a-theme surface controllers from Akai, Korg, etc.

Mostly I think the synth/plugin developers are getting ramped up for 64-bit.

Don't ask me, I just play here.

Thanx for the head's up Greg. It makes sense that all plugs are code in 64bit and that it takes some time out of other developments.

Thanx DEbs for the link too. I will have a look, I miss it when people where talking about it.(busy time right now).

All inputs are welcome anyway though!

unless the code is very bad, "porting" to 64 bit should take no more than 24 hours. AMD64 is exactly IA32, only you're guaranteed to have sse2. there are twice as many registers and the compiler handles most things better than assembly can.

compilers also now support nearly complete intrinsics for sse2 so there is really no reason to spend much time even when porting methods to sse2 from ordinary float.

the "they're all busy with x64" theory is in my opinion 100% unlikely.

the only stuff that needs to be done is mistakes need to be fixed - some things you were allowed to do "wrong" in IA32 are now forced to do "right" in x64.

The B2M tracks amazingly quickly. It missed pitch when I played it at the show but I think this could be helped by compressing into it because the pitch inconsistency seemed to be related to the inconsistency in my technique.

The biggest announcement of the show was UA partnering with Ampex and Lexicon. The Steven Slate Console plug-ins look amazing, too, especially since they're fully component modeled. My favorite gear at the show was the Behringer copy of the Matchless DC-30 and my second favorite was the new Allen & Heath DJ controller.

That is what I heard also from a developer a while ago, and I was crucify for saying it here on KVR in one of my very first posts. I was also saying back then that it was very important to consider 64bit apps. In fact it was really the start of the real commercialisation of all the 64bit os on a larger scale (just about 2 years ago)

I also remember telling NI(and posting on threads about NI) to do something about 64bit compatibility with their hardware (lack of drivers for the usb port), that now are all settle(even the software is 64bits).

That was part of the same post I am talking about if I recall, anyhow...It's kind of ironic that the very same perspective you are exposing in your post is now out in the open without much fuss.

I guess some people lack mid to long term vision.

Thanx for sharing.

But I will give the benefice of doubt, and would truly appreciate all work done to have all plugs in 64bit. I applause all initiatives done in that respect.

Personnaly acidose, do you have ideas of what we could expect in plugs this year?

@Deb I read the other thread, and it's almost more a thread about the future of Shows and Apple than about new developments in the industry. So I guess my question stands then.

All input is mucho appreciated!
