This is turning out to be my biggest problem. I cant think of a name. =o(

Great stuff abstractcats .... :)

Wow, 14 tracks in, and still more than 6 days to go!! :)

As usual, I'm resisting temptation to listen to any tracks before the closing date, and it's killing me!!!

Post

Yeah, maybe fair to listen to all the same number of times, but like last time I'm listening to them as they come in just for first impressions, then thouroughly come voting time. Last vote the list changed between the two so an interesting process. It's like you loved that pop song right away, but Jethro Tull or Rush not a favorite initially but still came out way on top once they were listened to a 110 times or so.. ;) (listenable even today)

Struggling seriously to make the deadline with a decent entry, both woman and kid STILL in the hospital a week later with blasted infections so only home a few hours a day. I'll probably scrape a cut together from what I have at the last minute even so, if only to collect the odd sympathy vote.. :P

No probs V'ger, it's always interesting to hear what folks do with the featured synth even if it's a short piece, or unfinished .... it's what the comp is all about really .... I find the collective effort in exploring a synths capabilities/limits is still the most exciting aspect rather than individual tracks .... great though they may be :)

Wishing your partner and newborn well ... :)

Hey, its gone all quiet! ... any more tracks? ...Still 5 days, 8 hours and about 25mins to go :)

I've gone a bit quiet here as well, but I'm still keeping tabs on the thread ... been busy with gigs, studying C++ in order to write better plugs, and learning a bit about putting games together. Managed to construct my first PC game ... which will be used to help publicise an upcoming punk gig .... you can check it out if you ask nicely :hihi: .... anyway, dont be surprised if the participants prize for this comp is a silly game rather than a plug :)

Post

.... Hmmm ... 5 days, and about 7 and a half hours ...... I think I might manage to squeeze another one in ..... we'll see :)

Ooo! C++! thats a fun one, I have two books on it my self and actually taught my self the "hello world" program. I do want to want to finish learning it.

Yeah, I've been picking stuff up online and from library books for a while, but I got hold of a book recommended by xoxos, and it's all beginning to sink in and make sense now :) .... still a long way to go, but as long as I am enjoyin it as I am, the sooner I'll get there :)

Sure, mine is all finished up. I'll probably put it in Saturday, maybe Friday.
I'm waiting for a musician friend's input on the mix before I submit, as I'm very novice to final mixing, and I'm relegated to headphones.

This will be my first fully complete original track, so I'm really excited.
It's funny, the only projects I can seem to finish are from contests, or from some other means of creating a pre-defined context, or structure, or guideline for me to focus on. Otherwise, I start feeling lost, not sure what I want to do. And eventually I get frustrated, and say 'screw it.' A lot of good but incomplete material languishes in my projects folder. =o(

But not so this time! Woo! Finally, for all the time I spend trolling the sound design forum, I have something to prove that I actually do something with all that mania. Big milestone, for me.

Which warrants a 'thanks' directed at you, tattiemannie, for making me aware of the contest. I probably would've been piddling around without direction, as usual, otherwise.

One critical - perhaps catastrophic - problem yet remains, however. Something that may render my efforts naught: I cannot think of a good name for the track. And though I could just pick some cheesy funny 'rogue' derived name, I just cant bring myself to do it. I've become quite attached to this song.

.. Title? .... throw a dictionary open, throw three darts at it and put the words together in the most pleasing order :) ... I hear some bands have done similar .... That Wet Wet Wet guy is some fkn darts player :hihi:

Good to know the comp has got you producing music :) ... looking forward to hearing your track.

...why do I see this is as a metaphore for my love life (don't tell the missus).

Conversely, my problem is that I can think of titles easily but after a lot of effort am unable to come up with any music to match... so here are few suggestions for you:

Moulin Rogue
King of the Rogue
McCarthy's "The Rogue"
Yellow Brick Rogue
Stay out of the Rogue (if you want to grow old)

etc.

and my personal favourite:

Depeche Rogue

MajorBloodnok

Red peppers in dynamite sauce? I must have been out of my mind!

Cool! I don't know if you've found these or not but they seem to be good

http://www.cprogramming.com/tutorial.html

This one is the guy who created C++,
Bjarne Stroustrup
http://www2.research.att.com/~bs/

I read an interview with Bjarne Stroustrup in which he says that one of the biggest pluses(pun intended :D ) is having good math skills, mine are lacking at the moment, I just to to re-memorize the basics.

He also says, I think on his website that you don't need to learn C first, which I think is good to know.

Yes, I'm off topic, I think I'll start a thread for those of us who'd like to learn C++.

Exactly ! This is one of the main reasons I enter these OSC's... to finish a track ! :)
Altough my projects folder is filled with heaps of incomplete CRAP :D
