I was just taking a dump and reading CM and I came upon this paragraph:

"We recommend viral Flash game hit Canabalt as a perfect example of this (composing with a limited palette), as it manages to be both cinematic and minimal in the same breath"... etc.

If you visit tigsource.com, you're going to see how enormous the selection of absolutely class Flash games is. But hey, you say it's shit. I'm uninstalling it as we speak.

BTW does Unity run on those iThings? Probably not, but if I can play Off-Road Velociraptor Safari I may get an iPad. Just for that.

[edited because while what I wrote was not offensive to spaceman, he could take it that way, so removed]

The real point is that Flash is NOT a good web solution at all. It's processing and resource heavy and it's a bitch to develop and maintain. It's had its use and it will disappear soon enough. Adobe hasn't done anything to make it better and there's technologies arising that will make it redundant. HTML 5 being the most likely candidate.

I obviously appear to be missing something here, judgin by the amount of people commenting on this issue there is obviously interest.

Prehaps we have music hardware developers all looking at you to spend $1000 on devices instead of apple looking for $400 with a touch screen, software depending giving you unlimited sliders, pads and other controllers.

Back in the day i purchased a Yamaha QY10 then after QY70 so i could compose on travelling or just randomly whenever hit with the musical spark. It was nasty the keyboard was rubbery and tiny yet somehow many tunes were created.

Dont get me wrong, im not saying cash in your studios for this little device but the option to pull up a keyboard play in some quicktime synths prehaps even be able to flick to a mixer page, or play with some filters gotta say it all sounds attactive!

Imagine being about to take your mix somewhere and tweak the required about in a meeting, basically and of course software depending this could be very interesting.

By the way no doubt i get a few digs from those that only write with weighted keys, then fine prehaps this wouldnt be for you :)

Unity wont run on it, but you can build from Unity for iPod, so probably yes.
Not from the free version, though although I dont doubt the iPod version will be able to build higher-resolution stuff for iPad soon.

Lack of multi tasking is the big turn off for me

So HTML5 wont be processing or resource heavy, wont be a bitch to develop for (differing implementations across browsers will suddenly just vanish as a problem) and it'll be far easier to maintain since it'll be buried in a whole load of other markup.

Okay, Im convinced.

ok, the jury is still out on that one, but it can hardly be worse than Flash.

And I prefer coding in my own ide over the horrible experience that is the multi-hundred pound monstrosity Flash.

Well, doesn't Adobe own Flash lock, stock and barrel? How is this good for the WWW? And weren't Microsoft trying to get in on the proprietorial act with their own version of Flash (Silverlight)? From my understanding, HTML5 is an open standard (parts of which are now being used by Microsoft). If I'm wrong on any of this, please feel free to educate me.

Personally, I heartily dislike the whole Flash "experience" and I use ClickToFlash to block it. The web is now much faster for me. If an entire site is Flash-based then I just avoid it. I don't miss it one bit on my iPhone and I won't miss it when I get an iPad either.

Kind regards.
