I downloaded the demo version of Digital Peak Meter Pro with the intention of having the envelope of a kick also modulate the cutoff frequency on a filter of a synthesizer. Strobe, by fxpansion, to be exact.

I'm working in Logic 9.1 under Snow Leopard on a MBP and have NO IDEA how to route the MIDI information from the plugin to the synthesizers filter.

Confused as all hell here and unfortunately there is no tutorial on how to do this within Logic on Blue Cat's website.

What I have tried:
I have instantiated the plug-in on the kick track and intend to use the Transformed (1) signal to modulate the filter. I have tried doing it via "Learn Mode" in Logic, but that isn't effective. I did not think it would be.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

thank you for your interest in our plugins!

It indeed took us quite a while to understand how to connect plugins within Logic, and it's unfortunately still not as convenient as in other hosts. That's why we are still struggling with writing a tutorial :).

Here is a brief summary of the situation with Logic:
- you cannot route a plugin MIDI output to the input of another one (We have opened an enhancement request to Apple on this topic)
- for non real time side chaining, you can use automation curves generated by our plug-ins and copy/paste them to other tracks (as shown in this automation tutorial for Sonar). We'll write a tutorial dedicated to Logic Pro on this topic soon.
- for real time side chaining, it is possible to connect plugins thanks to Logic Pro's Environment feature. But it currently has several limitations. For some reason, it works with only one instance at a time, and parameters output can be interrupted if you change the parameters of the analysis plugin. We need to work with Apple on these limitations. But if you are interested and you are not familiar with Logic's environment we can send you more detals about how to do it. Right now it seems that the most reliable solution is to use an external host application and do external MIDI routing to re-enter Logic :(.

Hi,

The latest version of the Digital Peak Meter Pro plug-in fixes the limitation I was talking about in my previous post, and we now have a tutorial for Logic.

Enjoy!

Hey, i followed the tuto on how to control a plugin using the output of DPM, but what if i want to control a virtual instrument and indeed get the actual midi value as an input on the new track?

I guess you can follow the same pattern for a virtual instrument. I am not sure you can send the messages back to the input of a track. We'll give it a try and get back to you!

Thanks, i actually tried it and nothing happens... logic creates only data out of the midi cc you pass.

Too bad Logic still does not support direct MIDI output from Audio Units! Why doesn't the parameter linking solution work for you?

Post

Well, the parameter linking works, but only to drive automation, i can't get it to drive a midi parameter. Maybe it's only me, it's the first time i've been using this panel in logic, so if you get it to work, let me know :) Merci!
