Can't wait to play with your plugins but for some reason i just cannot get them to show up in Ableton Live. I'm running 8.1.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. I've downloaded the 64 bit (and 32 bit) plugin bundles, change my installation directory to my plugin drive during installation, everything seems to install OK but when I launch Ableton, I don't see Bluecat plugins identified during the plugin scan and there's no sign of them in the host. Can't think what I could be doing wrong.

Hi,

thank you for using our plugins. As far as I remember, Ableton does not provide a 64-bit version of Live (it's a 32-bit application). It means that you need to install the 32-bit version of our plugins (Windows x64 can run both 32 and 64 bit applications).

The "Win x64" installer for our plugins installs a 64-bit version of the plugins that can only be used in a 64-bt application on a 64-bit OS (for example Cakewalk Sonar 64-bit, Cockos Reaper 64-bit...).

From your email I am not sure I understand which version you installed. If you installed both in the same place they have probably overwritten each other. In this case, the best way to proceed is probably to uninstall them and just reinstall the 32-bit version.

Hope this helps!

Oh...Duh! Thanks. Yes, that was it. Ableton is 32 bit...I was totally fixated on Win 7 being 64 bit.

Well, yes this 32/64 bit business on Windows is indeed confusing! :)

Hi,
I must say I'm having the same problem.
I originally installed the x64 on my Windows 7(64) os but failed to open in Ableton Live 8 (now I know why!).
So I uninstalled the 64 bit version and installed the 32 bit.
This time though I was not prompted for a username or password during the installation process.
When I openned up Live I noticed the VST was still not showing up so I uninstalled it again and went through the installation again.

I have done this 5 times now and I have not been asked to input my username or password since the original x64 install.

does this mean its in the registry somewhere and its unabling me to install the 32bit version?

Some advice would be great!

Matt.

Hi,

thanks for contacting us. There is no problem with installing both the 32 and 64-bit versions of the plug-in: there is no restriction about that. The reason why it does not ask you your license again is that it has kept the registration for the 64-bit version and that both versions share the same authorization. So there is no problem here.

So once installed, you do not need to reinstall the plug-in, it should be fine. However:
1- either Live needs to refresh its plug-in list (you may have to force rescan in the options),
2- or the plug-in is not in the right folder (have you checked it's exactly the folder described in the VST options of Live? - beware of the "x86" suffix at the end of Program Files for non x64 apps like Live).

It is very likely that (1) is the problem if you installed the 64-bit version of the plug-in in Live's 32-bit plug-ins folder. It may have blacklisted our plug-in as non-working.

From the Ableton Live FAQ, it looks like you need to press the "Alt" key when forcing rescan in such cases:
I am rescanning my VST directory in Live but it still doesn't show all of my plug-ins. Why?
Please be sure that the plug-in is actually a VST effect plug-in. If you are using Mac OS X, please be sure that the plug-in is not a Mac OS 9 effect. If you're using an Intel-Mac, please be sure that your VST is compatible with your system. If it is a indeed a VST effect plug-in, try holding Alt/Option while clicking on Rescan so that Live does a completely new scan of the directory.
I hope this will solve the issue. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
