Mac10.6 problem with entering text and U-he products with Live8x

Mac os 10.62, in Live 8x, with Zebra2.5, and ACE1.0 problem.
While inputting text, the delete key, deletes the au/vst instance, instead of backspace.
Even with an "Option.txt" script fix for this from Ableton, it still doesn't work correctly.
Will there be a fix for this in the future?
It's really annoying.
I've lost many a well started preset, from this problem.
I'll also post it in the Ableton forum.

The most reliable workaround for this is to make sure that the track hosting the plug-in that you're working on isn't highlighted in yellow: if you have auto-hiding for plug-in windows selected, click on the empty area to the right of the main tracks area and it will mean the track can't receive the keyboard focus. If not, click on an empty slot in an adjacent track (so you don't wind up deleting a clip by mistake).
It's easy to forget to do but it does mean hitting backspace won't delete the plug-in or the whole track.
I haven't been able to get the Options.txt workaround to function either with 8.1.1

Oh, there's a real workaround for it? Sweet.
I've just been happily editing the texts of my U-he patches without ever hitting the backspace key.. takes a bit of getting used to, sure, but it's fun (besides, ctrl+z has saved me just about every time when I forgot, so...)
Besides, if you're on a mac, you can change the "delete" keybinding in Ableton to something like shift+backspace.. many ways to solve this if it really eats you that much..
By the way, you have ACE v1.1 ?!!!??
Where can I get mine?
(bought ACE immediately upon release)

Tell me about it, I was highlighting text and using delete forward to do edits until I found that one lurking in one of the threads on either the Ableton or NI forums - I'd have linked to it but I couldn't find it this morning when I tried to search for it.tetsuneko wrote:Oh, there's a real workaround for it? I just overrode the Abe's default "Delete" and "Delete Time" keybindings.. changed them from "backspace +" to "ä +" (I have a scandinavian keyboard - the extra keys come in handy)
And with no mess no fuss, I can now edit the texts of all uhe plug presets to my hearts content. This actually saves me a lot of hassle with my UAD plugs as well - entering parameters by numbers (especially during a liveshow) are situations where that accidental backspace action is not desirable..
BTW, here's a brilliant article on changing OSX keybindings in any apps:

It's just that I went from a mac ppc which didn't have that behavior.tetsuneko wrote:... many ways to solve this if it really eats you that much..
So getting used to it is not easy, and I wasted a bit of work with the problem.
I also have to enter a lot of text for a preset bank I'm working on.
Oh...that's a mistake I'll correct now.tetsuneko wrote:By the way, you have ACE v1.1 ?!!!??

Thanks for all the workarounds, I'll try them out.

Oh man..
It seems that even when I change the default keybindings.. the backspace key still removes just about anything inside Live.. So ATM I am not really sure this removes the problem completely. (well, I tried to get a device to delete itself - when I'm in a plugin textbox it seems impossible, but..)

A not-perfect thing to do in Live is use the delete key in the the block of keys over the arrow keys on a full-sized keyboard (i.e. not the 'backspace' delete key), which deletes ahead of the cursor. Still a bit of a pain.
