Too bad, with the all the filters-effects, modulation choice and the semi-modular structure, I can only imagine the sound possibilities!

You can already run audio (from a sampler or anywhere else) and MIDI through Zebrify and process it using all of Zebra's modules. It seems it can even track audio and convert it to MIDI, as well as being able to modulate audio with MIDI!

Yes I know. I had the beta. It's really good at processing audio but it's not what I had in mind.

Sheesh, yes...

Last year I simply had to "finalize" Zebra into a state that does not require any feature updates (as in: new modules) for quite a while. It's at a state where anyone who requests more filter modes etc. is literally outing himself as a nut case. The weak points that are left can be survived for a year easily.

I feel quite good about leaving Zebra aside this year and catching up with everything else, including Uhbik-X and Filterscape.

Btw if berlin modular will be the big brother of ace and zebra in one, how will it works there with cpu-usage? At one side i think the berlin modular will be a dream-monster

but on the other side, when i sometimes see in my daw ace eat with accurancy my half cpu, how much will eat his big brother?

Yeah, the sampler is clearly a thing we aren't apt to see for quite a while, with Urs' plate quite full right now. But I'm intrigued by the idea too.

Kontakt is fine for now - it gets the job done and there are many good libraries. What interests me is the fact that Urs would put his own particular spin on a sampler and, I've no doubt, produce something that really makes you want to get your hands dirty doing creative things with taking your own samples and manipulating them...something that harks back to the more wild and experimental attitude people often had in the earlier days of hardware samplers. Having Urs' filters available in a sampler would also be very cool, as the ones in Kontakt are serviceable but IMO not necessarily dripping with character.

Berlin will be a full modular without default routings, so I would assume he will "sleep" or switch off the modules are not being used. Yes this means the more modules you use the more power consumed, but at least it would make sense.

Well, if only that would be possible.

As you can see from Bazille, most types of modules come in quadruples. That's because they are processed in parallel on the cpu (google SIMD, SSE and AltiVec for reference). Which means for instance, processing four Bazille oscillators at once comes at the cost of processing just a single oscillator. Switching one such oscillator off does only work if we're switching them all off.

That said, a major slice of ACE's cpu consumption is due to the filters. ACE has only two filters by design, but could have four at little more overhead for juggling connections and what not (which wouldn't make sense in ACE's concept, but does make sense in a bigger brother).

So, yes, any synth within Berlin Modular will eat up more cpu than ACE, but not necessarily twice as much.
