This is why I have decided (as many others) no to buy any product that charges VAT as we don't have to pay it not being part of the EU.

If you're not in the EU you shouldn't be paying VAT. Are there sellers who charge VAT to non-EU residents?

Both Native Instruments and Cakewalk "charge" VAT to non-EU residents if the price is in Euro (actually, they probably do not actually charge VAT, but the price is the same).

Don't they have a (cheaper) US dollars price for those outside the EU?

They do, if you live outside Europe. But not for European countries not part of the EU.

Out of 27 EU countries I think only 16 actually use the euro as their currency.

Everything else, I have to assume state sales tax will be added to the listed price. When I go to buy a new car and it's advertised for $20,000 they don't specifically tell you that the tax will be $1400.00.

I don't understand how people think just because something is priced in $'s that VAT Wouldnt apply. To me, when I see something priced in $'s I think thats the USA pricing, and fine, I just convert that to GBP £££'s I just assumed that the converted price already had VAT on it, so I was well happy and all set to have fun with Zebra then the VAT put an end to that. That was my only disappointment. Removing the price tag would solve that too tbh.

I also worry that not advertising a price can be a problem too. I've always hated having to search for a price and would often not purchase things that require me to add something to my cart in order to do a price check.

Really in this discussion alone I see 2, maybe 3 people pushing really hard for a change when most everyone else didn't have an issue.

The problem with this is that no matter what's done, there will always be some issue with 2 or 3 individuals. If you add "VAT not included" then you'll have all the Americans not exposed to the rest of the world wondering if they'll have to pay VAT, which might mean extra support time just to answer the question of who actually pays VAT and who doesn't.

Anyway, all I'm saying is that while it may seem a simple issue due to your experiences, it is in no way a simple issue.

I'm also going to add that whatever Urs decide will probably be well measured and hopefully everyone can respect that given that he's a one-man show and knows his own business better than any of us that after all are really only just speculating or at very least stating what's best for our own personal preference.

Well the reason why tax is not displayed on cars is not just to make the price more attractive, but it's also because sales tax is not required for everyone. A good example is that Washington state has it's own sales tax, whereas Oregon state (bordering Washington on the South side) does not have a sales tax AND Oregon residents are not required to pay sales tax in Washington state so long as they have proof of their Oregon state residency.

So again... it is another case of showing only the price of the product. The tax is not displayed because it does not affect everyone.

Bingo...the price is different for different people. So there is no "one price" he can put up to show everyone the one price they're going to pay.

The reason why many companies only show one currency is because currencies fluctuate and then you have people complaining because without adjusting the price on a regular basis, then the change currency value will benefit one group over another. Just check for discussion of pricing for Fabfilter... there's always something to complain about and there's no solution that will work for everyone. The price shown as it currently is, actually IS a compromise.
