True.

Now this is easy one. Select the item you want to "stretch" without preserving pitch. Press F2 and untick "Preserve pitch when changing rate"!

That really wasn't so hard, was it?

@Jose C. - you hold ALT to do the stretching, not CTRL.

He was asking about Sonar, not Reaper.

an easy to do misunderstanding, in a thread with reaper in the title ;)

Jed wrote: I think this perceived midi timing issue has to do with whether or not Reaper is configured to take into account the latency of the midi input device.

Next time you record midi in reaper, try right clicking the track vu meter and checking the 'Preserve PDC delayed monitoring in recorded items' option.

Before I checked this I found that my midi notes were recording slightly too early, but with this enabled they are bang on.

Its kind of a 'record the timing that your ears hear' vs 'what you play with your fingers' mode. Live I think records what you hear, where as Reaper (without that option enabled) records what you play.

This makes sense to me because we tend to play ahead of the beat slightly when playing our midi keyboards (to combat the latency of the input devices and vsti's so that what our ears hear is in time with the rest of the track as it plays). That reaper setting simply subtracts the latency timing from what you play before recording it into a track.

Of course I could be totally off the pace but it worked for me!

Hey,

just saw your post... I'm going to check that out, thanks for the suggestion!

lol

But this is all entirely my fault for not posting in the SONAR 8.5 which I meant to in the first place, hence causing the misunderstanding.

To sum up.
A) I can do what I'm asking for in Reaper/XT2/FL Studio with no problem.
B) With respect, I am not an imbecile who knows nothing about the hosts he uses (though my posts may lead people to believe the contrary)
C) I am happy with the work-around I've found in SONAR. (and thankyou JoseC for the other method)
D) I'm sorry for making this topic attract more attention than I ever meant it to.
E) I shall now put this thread on the ground and walk away slowly, with my hands in the air. (which means I'll miss all the witty comments that follow)
F) REAPER 4 EVAR! (or until the universe reaches its maximum outward growth, by which time Reaper, and humanity itself will be lost in the sands of time)

fandango, sorry I misunderstood you. I didn't want to imply that you know nothing about the hosts you use, definitely not my intention ^^'

DragonSagoth: No worries, misunderstanding was my fault! :)

Sold REAPER and bought MU.LAB 3. Couldn't be happier :D

Used Reaper for about a year,
then moved to Logic 8, then 9.

most likely will never go back.

Had Reaper for a year or so. Couldn't make it do the basic things i could do in Cubase VST32 v5 so ended up going to Cubase Studio 5. It was only because of Cubase SX that i dropped Steiny anyway (and their shitty upgrade policy) and tried Reaper. i just really couldn't do basic things without constant reference to the manual.

And what would those "simple things" be?

Post

Had a Reaper license quite a while, always give it a fresh try every 3 months or so. In the end I always go back to Cubase. Cubase, for me at least, is just a more professional environment and a work flow that works for me.....

I will from time to time do a tune in Reaper, just to stay fresh with it....

I really want to like Reaper. It's a great, promising thing, until I hit the basic needs. Coming from ACID 7, I'm trying to find something that bests that program, not the other way around. Still, for what I need, the MIDI part (which is not a strong point of ACID) is still better than Reaper. Until they can make that work smoother, have better commands, easy transpose on the fly, etc, I won't even consider going further. I do try it every major update (1.0, 2.0, 3.3 this time) but even if it's better, it's still not good enough for me. Going back to ACID. And gonna try the latest CuBASE, I heard good things about it. It better be better for me, or ACID stays as my main DAW. Or is it better to wait for 8.0? Don't know

If you're a Logic user some things about Reaper are pretty hard to get around... and you can't change the behavior in the prefs. I've been using Reaper on and off for the last year and there are 2 things that drive me nuts!

One: I cannot get used to the cursor jumping to where I click in the arrange window? If I have the loop set to bar 1-4 That's where I want playback to start... NOT wherever I click in the window. This can be configured to not jump where there are midi or audio clips in the window, but in Logic if you want to override the looped are you dbl. click in the timebar and the playback cursor will play from that point... within the looped area. Smart.

Two. No side scrolling with the arrow keys or mouse... This in some way seems to be tied to the cursor behavior, as they seem to think clicking on te screen is how you would move the cursor? And this behavior seems to mimic ProTools to some extent, which I have no experience with.

So I can't basically duplicate my Logic setup at all in Reaper. Which I thought I might. :?:
