Sold Sylenth1 after getting Zebra

I sold Sylenth1 after getting Zebra. Listening to some presets, I can see that a similar fat/warm/glossy kind of sound can be achieved with Zebra alone. Maybe not as fast and easily as with Sylenth1 but I have time to learn (and there are many more features in Zebra that I will be eventually able to use). Between Zebra and Albino, I couldn't really figure out what kind of sounds I would still need Sylenth for. Maybe if I wrote trance - but I can't imagine I will ever do...

Good choice, you should be able to get alot out of zebra. Its nearly as powerful as the Access Virus Ti in terms of features, and in some situations I think it has stuff the Virus does not have.
Not to mention Computer Music gave it a 10\10 . . . (They are a picky lot btw )
It can create a whole range of sounds too, just ask Howard Scarr
Version 2.5 takes up alot of CPU.. at least on my system
(I Guess its times to upgrade, before i buy the full version)
If you want a good allroundsynth this would be the one!
If you need modern sounds, get this! if you need vintage sounds get Synthsquad.
If you got the money, get both and you covered the basics. I thought I might just get Synthsquad and Zebra Vs buying a Virus Ti2, and I'd have a really decent setup.

Does ACE have any eco mode for those with an older CPU (like the one in Massive?) I haven't tried the demo yet but I heard it's very CPU intensive.bmrzycki wrote:I prefer this for vintage sounds. And it doesn't break the bank either.Zergling wrote:if you need vintage sounds get Synthsquad.

Yes, it does have "economy modes" (and sounds great even at the "lowest" setting). But it depends on what you mean by an "older cpu". A Pentium III? Last year's Quadcore?szurcio wrote:Does ACE have any eco mode for those with an older CPU (like the one in Massive?) P4 3.4GHz - yeah, i know, ACE will probably bring it on its knees in 10 seconds.ariston wrote:Yes, it does have "economy modes" (and sounds great even at the "lowest" setting). I own Zebra, ACE and Sylenth and would never sell any of them. I still prefer the sound of Sylenth to Zebra or ACE in quite a few areas.szurcio wrote:I sold Sylenth1 after getting Zebra. Not that I've tested it on a P4, but I think it's safe to assume you won't enjoy it very much on your machine. But you'll have something to look forward to if you ever upgrade (small consolation, I know).szurcio wrote:P4 3.4GHz - yeah, i know, ACE will probably bring it on its knees in 10 seconds.

I used the demo of ACE without too much trouble, on a mac G4 laptop 1.33ghz, and only 1gb ram.
Try out the demo.
IMO, Zebra can do vintage sounds.
If you want a bright super saw thing, like for trance?
Just put 4 osc on 1 slot. Then turn all the osc spectral fx to "brilliance".
Throw a vintage filter (or any filter) in the last slot, and use a compressor to limit.

I've run multiple instances of ACE with no problems using various number of voices and quality settings. intel core2duo T9300 running at 2.5gHz, 3GB RAM
It is never wise to stack too many voices at once regardless, esp. if many instances are coinciding at a point within a track at a given time. ACE is fantastic for creating vintage analog patches. I would highly advise checking out the demos and grabbing some of the free banks of patches from the online patch library at U-he's website. Try it on. Don't just go on what you hear. That ACE is CPU intensive seems to be the hot talk among the naysayers lately. Try it and see for yourself.

As my test machine is still a PIV 3 Ghz with 2Go ram, you can play all the patches in ACE IF........ you put a lot of them in eco modes (like the draft one, or the standard one )ariston wrote:Yes, it does have "economy modes" (and sounds great even at the "lowest" setting). On some patches the difference between the different modes will be hard to detect, while its more obvious on some other ones.
Anyway even with draft quality ACE will sound very clean, ie I guess that "some_synths" would be more than happy with ACE low quality mode.
The annoying thing is that while you can play all patches with a reasonable polyphony AFTER changing the mode to lower quality, you wont be able to browse the instruments in a comfortable way because some of them will kill your cpu and/or freeze your host if you're adventurous enough to play .... a simple triad.
The solution could be to back up the factory lib, then resave all instruments with a lower quality. But thats maybe a harrassing task.
Anyway you can try the demo
As for Sylenth Vs Apples VS etc, Sylenth sounds vastly different from ACE : Different filters, aso. As every true analog synth sounds different from another one. So thats its -imho- a quite difficult task to compare -or oppose- them. No one will probably replace the other.
Just my 0.002 and ... In case it helps,
