Mr. Himalaya is gifted. He could do this with ACE easily.

The question is: Can *you* do this with any of your preferred synths?

:P

Post

He is gifted indeed. After demoing ACE / Zebra many times I have not come close to anything like that, however I have come pretty close with Strobe.

I prefer this for vintage sounds. And it doesn't break the bank either.

I've got Zebra and will be adding. As for the CPU load? Yeah, its big! But I think, from what I've heard in the Demo, its well worth it!

I saw(pun intended :hihi: ) that some one suggested running as a Mono??

Good idea! AND, you could run it through MDA's Detune to give a "poly" feel...
I'll try it my self.. :!:

Well, some synths open up in draft mode by default. ACE starts in best quality mode. To achieve the same sounds with these synths as in ACE (if they can do them at all, that is) you have to push up their quality setting and typically end up with even less playable cpu usage.

OK (I just did this for the fun of it and to see what my PC could take)Using Power Pad, Settings: Stack-8, Mode-Poly, Voices-Many, Quality-Accurate
And Freeze! FL9 and My sound card :hihi: Awesome!

But ACE set in Stack-1, Mode-Poly, Voices-few, Quality-Draft ACE is very good on CPU,
EDIT:*/ I did also use MDA's detune FX with the "Mix Level" set to about 50 % and and got a great sound with it added. */:EDIT

I should state that I'm using an AMD setup with a Quad core CPU and 4 GIG RAM, so as Urs states on the ACE website you will need a "modern" computer. And with prices at current levels, a "fast enough for ACE" computer should not be out of the range of many computer users. I'll be up grading my PC for many reasons this year, ACE is just another good one :D .

Great work Urs!

Not bad Justin, that's probably the best I've heard from ACE so far, but I still don't think it's as "analog" sounding as the Himalaya's example or the basic example I posted of deadmau5's Strobe.

Thanks. :) For sure I couldn't come close to Himalaya's example, but I'm not a professional sound designer.
I was just having some fun.

Thats not as good as the one DocT just posted up.... Now that shows off ACE's capabilities, and tbh honest i still dont think it sounds as good Synthsquad..

Must have to do with that Discrete Component Analog Modelling ;)

Why can't they be equally good but different? Is there a need for a definitive "best"? I think both Synth Squad (particularly Strobe) and Ace sound fantastic and wouldn't want to have to judge them side by side in a beauty contest. I do gravitate toward ACE more because of the modular layout I'm so fond of but I think they are all very strong synths.

That said, I'm pretty notorious for my tin ears. :hihi:

You already have a synth that can do that... Why would you want another that duplicates it??
