Hi Guys!

I have been playing around with the demo version of A.C.E. and was really digging the sound quality. I was looking into using this synth for my kickdrums, until I have noticed something. I am not sure if i am missing something (i haven't played around with modular synths too much). I take the "RL Hard Kick Fx" preset, turn off the Delay and loop it one bar of 4 1/4 notes. The kick seems to change sound, slightly, still it does not seem to produce the same sound on each kick. You can hear this better if you put a distortion plugin on the kick and loop it, it seems like the sound is slightly changing through the 4 1/4 hits. It almost sounds like something else is slightly modulation the sound. I turned off "Drift", make sure Reset is "On" on both Osc. I can look at the oscilloscope and also see that the waveform is slightly different through out each 1/4.
What am I missing here??

Thanks
Mike

Nevermind, I just saw a thread that says "ACE gets out of tune in demo mode".

Guess its time to buy it!! :))

Damn!! Its says "Zebra gets out of tune in demo mode".

I hope its the same for A.C.E, cuz i just bought it and waiting for a response.

Hmmm, it is entirely possible that there are subtle differences between subsequent notes, even if the oscillators are reset (the filters are usually not).

Make sure that "Slop" and "Crosstalk" on the tweaks page are set to 0.00, then set mode to "duophonic". That ensures that voices are not iterated, so it's always the same voice picking up from where it was left.

Cheers,

;) Urs

I tried it and for some presets its still does it. (BTW, this is the registered version now (see above posts)).

Can someone double check this with me.

Here is patch i was playing around with:
http://rapidshare.com/files/356906147/R ... t.h2p.html
If you take this patch, lay down 4 1/4 notes, in a 170BMP track, and loop it,
there is something else modulating the sound. I cannot figure out what it is, but the sound is different for each of the 4 notes.

Thanks for your reply Urs.

Iv'e just checked this and it works fine fo me even at 170bpm..The modulations for this particular preset are controlled via LFO2 fed in to ADSR1.
Both *SLOP* and *Crosstalk* are also set to Zero in the Tweak page.
Did you adjust the preset in any way?
Use the sliders within ADSR1 to adjust the pitch etc of the sound..other than that i can't find any abnormalitie's with this preset :)

Thanks

Thank you Rob for checking that out.

I understand they are modulated but the modulation should reset at the beggining of each note. You do not hear a slight modulation and slight volume changes
as you listen to the four 1/4 notes?

Hmm maybe when I get home today I can mixdown a quick mp3 and let you guys listen.

Hi

This is an FX preset so i wouldn't normally use this for a straight 4/4 but im looking now and an there should be no variations in the sound as it's set to retrigger..If you have the delay fx switched on and play the 4/4 your gonna get phasing due to the delay being set at 8th+8th..if i turn of the fx then i can't hear what you mean..
There's also a similar preset i programmed *RL Ace Kick* which uses nearly all the same parameters to the one we're talking about for reference :)

Hope this helps.

Rob :)

Hi Rob, I turned off the delay and chorus.

Did this sort out your problem?

Using kicks 4/4 with 8th+8th delays etc will produce phase like fx on every beat..Not Good hehe...like i say everything is designed to do exactly what it's supposed to do..but with a little alteration like turning off the fx gives the user a wider choice...

Maybe it's time i did another bank for Ace or a bank for Zebra soon :)

Thanks

Hi Rob,

No, I was saying that in my preset that I am testing with, I have delay and chorus turned off. Both OSC reset to On, Drift Off, Slop and Crosstalk are both also off and LFO are both set at Gate. With these setting I still hear some modulation.

Thanks, Mike

Hi everyone,
So I have managed to finally setup a demonstration of the problem. I have the ACE kick drum preset i was using and 8 bars of 1/4 notes at 170 BPM.
Check out the rendered down audio and listen to the "click" of the kick. It is being modulated somehow.

Please check this out because im clueless as to what is causing it. I applied all the suggetions from Urs to that preset, with the same result.

Thanks
Mike

Anyone try my presets from last post? :(

Sorry not trying to be a pain in the a$$, just trying to find out if other people are having the same problem or if its something in my system.

Mike

I just tried the last preset.
I hear a subtle difference in some notes but If it is the same as in your rendered mp3 I can't test because I don't have Quicktime installed on this computer.

I think it sounds like voice stealing, if it is due to the long attack/decay of adsr2 or just some analog mojo causing I can't say.
