Okay, I'm nearly ashamed to be passing this one on....

It's a free iPhone app that includes a tuner, metronome, chord charts, and lessons, that I surmise will attempt to lead you toward buying more lessons.

Does that qualify for a student discount?

just got a mailer from guitar center and they are selling the Presonus Faderport for $100. if this works with Logic 9, I will definitely be buying this one.

EDIT: bought it; it sucks wit L9 and you can only use it to automate the volume and panning, took it back.

Not strictly music-related, but given the size of ROMplers lately...

Hitachi 1TB SATA internal drive, $68 shipped.

(The first drive I remember buying cost me about $2/MB. This one costs about 7 cents per GB. Yay Moore's Law.)

Does one need a dongle for it? It says under requirements:

- Challenge Response (hard disk)
- iLok USB key

Does it mean you have to do both, or choose one of the methods?

...and here we go again.

It's NOMAD FACTORY, they're one of the WAY too few companies that offer both - challenge/response OR iLok authorisation.
Choose as you desire.

Damn, when will I learn to search before asking? Sorry! The answer - which is "no dongle necessary" - is here: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=281076

EDIT: Thanks caleb82 and sorry again.

M-Audio's Fast Track USB at Buy.com for $50:

http://www.buy.com/prod/m-audio-fast-tr ... adid=17653

Definitely a low-end device, but looks like it would be handy for maybe some quick-and-dirty laptop recording. A quick google shows it as selling for $80 USD or more everywhere else.

Excellent thing to mention, clonewar! :)

You know, for some reason I hadn't really thought this issue through before, but --

This would be a highly portable way to turn any computer into an M-Powered-qualified one. The license for M-Powered lives on an iLok dongle, but it'll only work with a computer that has a qualifying piece of M-Audio hardware.

You could easily take the Fast Track around with the dongle, load M-Powered into any machine that'll run it, and be ready to use it anywhere. Not as tiny as the M-Box 2 Micro, but a lot cheaper, and you could actually record.
