I used to use this quite a bit (very good for supersaw) but I got fed up with the big crackle every time you changed a preset.halcyon68 wrote:Well, since other synths that aren't exactly "all purpose" have been mentioned I'd throw in:nX-Sounds nX-Synth 2
Which are the really good free synths?

SQ8L and synth1 are best emulation vsti. But, SQ8L is some old 1980s mood. and Synth1 is suerly luck and best, and worst for nord lead himself.v1o wrote:The best free synths I've heard in recent times are SQ8L and the Elektrostudio Pack. They're so good that there's need to buy any commercial virtual analogues.
Out of the vintage oldies Synth1 and Superwave P8 stand out.
and, you know, Toguaudio and ElectroStudio as a vintage synth.
I will vote Voyager and Farbrausch for best modern free synth. Farbrausch has some bug. but can use. BR404 and Orz are good too. but, no preset.. I am thinking to make preset. but so hard and don't have time...
and.. use Search.. There are some good and lovely free synths for you.

Are there any known problems with Voyager in Cubase 5? I downloaded v1.1 and it won't load, just gives me an error and says I should save a new project file and restart Cubase or something.

me would love string theory more if it didn't chew up my cpu like it does.V'ger wrote:Me love String Theory..pattonfreak1 wrote:no love for Ugo?Been playing with it for weeks now. Brilliant modelling of plucked string sounds and bowed aren't bad either.

KX-SYNTH-X16-V2.5
May look more like an experimenters tool but the underlying sound quality is amazing. Can do pretty much anything 'analogue' just like a good synth should.

@concealed identity - Works fine for me in C5, but I'm using the Limeflavor skin w/mGUI. I wouldn't call it a must, but the Limeflavor skin really puts this plug on a new leveldebby wrote:I don't know about this. I already had many of the synths mentioned here but the 3 new synths that I love the most after trying several new ones discovered in this thread are
1) Overall: SQ8L. I can't believe I didn't have this synth in my arsenal. Great for "old school" synth sounds and the number of available presets is pretty amazing. Granted, they're not all stellar but definitely a lot of useable stuff when you take the time to sort through..
2) The best sounding one I think is Curve. Unfortunately it doesn't come with many presets and I am not much of a synth tweaker. Wish there were more presets for this one.
3) Voyager, but with the Ann banks .. they are so good. While I was at it, I downloaded the Oatmeal and Synth1 Ann patches too and I am happy I did
The only one left I have to try is the Farbrausch. I am downloading now..

Agreed - I updated my list to include the skin link for LFs Oatmeal Skin, which is another case of a skin greatly improving a plugin. However, Oatmeal already had some great skins by other talented folk.
I also like the skin LF did for Xhip over the one that comes with the latest stable beta.
Many Thanks to LimeFlavor!
