Sylenth & Logic

Hi
I am running Logic 8 and have recently come across problems with my CPU where it suddenly starts overloading on one of the CPU meters within Logic; the normal effects ensue - glitches, distortion etc. Even if I shut down and restart the whole system it will continue.
It seems to be triggered by Sylenth and although I have seen in an earlier post that there are come CPU leaks with Sylenth, it has only just started to happen after running the same system for over a year now which leads me to believe it may not be this CPU leak problem.
If I take Sylenth off the channel, it returns to normal, however if I load another synth in its place it will do the same thing.
I thought it may be something I have accidentally changed in the Audio Preferences screen; there is a 'I/O Buffer Safety' tick box which I think may need to be ticked.
I was wondering apart from the CPU leak problem, has anyone encountered any problems like this where CPU instantly spikes rather than builds up to the point of overloading.
Its got me pretty baffled and is effecting music I am working on now.
If anyone has any ideas, it would be really appreciated!
Thanks
Rob

In that case it's not Sylenth so your thread title is misleading. I don't know the answer.Rob02uk wrote:If I take Sylenth off the channel, it returns to normal, however if I load another synth in its place it will do the same thing.

Well not really seen as though it is Sylenth that triggers this problem. It only happens once Sylenth has been on the channel.yellowfever wrote:In that case it's not Sylenth so your thread title is misleading.Rob02uk wrote:If I take Sylenth off the channel, it returns to normal, however if I load another synth in its place it will do the same thing.

There is no such thing as a 'cpu leak problem', I think you're confusing it with the memory leak, which is something totally different. Older Sylenth1 versions had problems with the GUI which could cause a spike in CPU usage but that's all solved for a long time. Maybe you're on an old version ?Rob02uk wrote:It seems to be triggered by Sylenth and although I have seen in an earlier post that there are come CPU leaks with Sylenth, it has only just started to happen after running the same system for over a year now which leads me to believe it may not be this CPU leak problem.

I have bought the (otherwise wonderful) sylenth some days ago as well, and do encounter the same problems. CPU is at 15-20% and when the second instance of Sylenth kicks in, there's a cpu spike and Logic (9 pro) stops.
This does not happen if I use other soft synths. Freezing the Sylenth tracks helps, of course.
Any idea?

Markus.

I think the previous guy in this thread was on an old version (which had that problem). Are you on the latest version ?Barely wrote:Hi there!Rob02uk wrote:Hi

Yes, I am on the latest, officially bought and freshly downloaded versionRob02uk wrote:

The problem seems to appear everytime a region with Sylenth in it starts (like Logic is starting an instance of Sylenth as soon there are midi data on the corresponding track). If I can trust my monitoring tools, I still have enough memory left. And as I said, the CPU spikes from around 20 % to deep red and stops playback.)
Logic 9 is the newest version, as well. This already happens with 2 instances of Sylenth. But I can run 20 instances of other instruments + 4 plugin effects on each track without any problem.
For now, I can live with it, but it might be a problem if I take my set on stage.
And yes, I know, the problem could lie with logic, as well

I had a similar CPU spke problem with Ableton and Zebra CM, but only on a first plauing of a tune. Subsequent playing would be OK. Had a long chat with Ableton about this but they insisted that it was the way OS X handled something I can't remember and not the fault of Ableton or Zebra.
Not sure if this is related - if it happens with subsequent playback of the tune then maybe not, but if playing it once then playing again (without closing Logic) solves the problem, it might be an OS X problem. FWIW, never had this problem with Sylenth in Ableton on OS X.
