Have mercy on people whose eyes are no longer 25 years old. This darkish-grey-on-slightly-darker-grey may look stylish, but it's hell to read in any but perfect lighting conditions.

Zebra is bad enough, this one is really bad. Nice for a movie prop, not for something people actually need to use.

Well, different monitors can be relatively bright or dark (tools at different levels in software / hardware for adjusting all that, too ...) I find most UIs to be too bright /shrug.

Urs,

I found something a bit odd with ACE 1.0, Windows XP SP3, Reaper 3.31. If I play notes with preset "05 Chords/RL Techno Trance" the oscilloscope gets "stuck". The sound dies away fairly rapidly but I'm left with a full waveform. The waveform resets on each new note but doe not move. It's almost like I'm in scope snapshot mode. If I switch presets left or right the scope becomes alive and moves again. If I keep coming back to this preset it reliably gets stuck.

Ideas?

Hmmm... maybe the sound creates a dc offset so that the scope can't sync to zerocrossings anymore?

Urs, ACE has put a big smile on my face, is this normal?

YES :D

Nothing? - I'm pretty sure there's a dc-killer in the fx section, so I wouldn't be worried too much...

If I was at home I'd render a few notes and see if the tail is on the positive or negative side only...

Just wanted to say - I bought u-he Ace last night, and got up early to play around with it this morning, and so far - I absolutely love it! Well done on a very good job. I can see it being very useful and can't wait to get started on making some presets :)

Thanks again, and keep up the good work :)

I know that ACE is meant as a mini-synthesizer in the first place. However, are there any plans to offer a Mini Ace?

I'm liking the general sound quality of ACE, as well as the patching ability. But often I find myself wanting a quick go-to synth for a basic sound. Naturally, I'm drawn to using ACE, but every time I do, I spend three hours messing around.

I played for a little while with a purposely limited feature set, and there's still a ton of fun to be had. I'd gladly pay $50 for something like this: A single VCO, with sub, a single multimode VCF, a single full-featured LFO, a single ADSR, one ramp, and one mod mixer (or whatever it's called). Basic or no FX, and a basic or no mapping generator.
And make it 100% modular, nothing pre-patched. Instead a couple of patched init presets should be enough to get newbies rolling.

Upwards patch compatibility to ACE would be good, since many might be hooked on the Mini and move up. A Mini Ace would probably use less processing power too, which is my current biggest complaint with ACE.

Hmmm... will think about it.

The biggest cpu consumer in ACE is the filter though, and that one doesn't go any faster if it was only one.

Hmmm, and with just one oscillator you'd miss out on Hardsync. Unless I'd do that Zebra-style within the oscillator itself.

We'll see...

I found ACE a little bit CPU intensive when I first got it but I've learned to work with it. For really resource heavy patches I'll switch down to draft or standard quality or switch to one of the monophonic modes. Then for final mixdowns I just freeze and render. It sounds amazing. I like it as is.  CPUs will catch up to ACE eventually.

I also have gotten used to working with it and the cpu use is hardly a limitation. I also love it like it is... well, except I find it frustrating the polyphony is tied to stacking. Set stack to 3 and the most ACE can do is 5 note polyphony and my cpu can handle more without even rendering. To deal with this I make a keyboard split with 2 instances of ACE with the same preset. Tedious but works.

What a great synthesizer, sheesh. It's ridiculous. Between audio-rate modulations and feedback, there are a ton of new things to play with.

The mapper alone is a killer feature. Here's a patch (below) for a Clavinet that uses the mapper as an oscillator. Sometimes I think I hear lots of aliasing going on when pushing the mapper to high frequencies, but at other times there seems to be very little aliasing (as in this example).
