This is easy to fix. It happens because Live / Zebra do not have the required permission to write the file in that folder (due to the enhanced security of Win Vista / Win 7 - which is a good thing in general). How to fix:
1. Right click the short cut to Live 8
2. Select "Run as Administrator"
3. Click "Yes" to continue if the UAC dialog is displayed
4. Create an instance of Zebra
5. Quit Live
You should only need to do this once, after that the necessary permissions for the files should be set. If some special behaviour is required to write the MDII map file, make sure you perform it before quitting Live in step 5.
Peace,
Andy.

At this stage I only use Windows 7 x64 for a small amount of plug-in testing in most of the major hosts, but other than the above permissions trick (which should work for any host / synth combination that has the same problem) everything seems to work the same as earlier Windows versions.cr2008 wrote: is their anything else i really need to know about windows 7

I would rather install your plugins in a folder that doesn't require admin priviliges like your home directory. Giving software access were it is not necessary is never a good idea. MS restricted access to the system and programm folder for a good reason...cr2008 wrote:

file could'nt be created to c:\program files(x86)\Vstplugins\Zebra2.data\Support\com.u-he.Zebra2.midimap.

Thanks for the tips but......
Having tried this and tried re-installing Zebra I still can't get Live 8.1.1 and WIndows 7 to work!!
While Zebra is installed but not in the installed programs list and re scanning VST in live it does not show up in the live list vst.
Any further advice welcome? Or it's a full re install of vst in a non program folder by the looks of it
Cheers Ian

I found I had the fewest problems with Windows 7 and VST authorization/permissions by using the pre-installed version of U-He plugins. I made the directory D:\VST (I assume C:\VST would work just as well) and just unzipped and copied in the files into D:\VST\u-he. Once I did that I had no permission problems whatsoever.
I find doing anything with c:\program files or c:\program files (x86) is nothing but grief. I understand Microsoft's attempt to minimize the ability for malicious programs to hijack your 3rd party apps. It's a shame the solution they came up with puts shackles on the user as well.
Good luck!

This is how I dealt with the issues I ran into when I bought a box that came with Vista 64 installed. It's worked like a charm so far.unixgeek42 wrote:I would rather install your plugins in a folder that doesn't require admin priviliges like your home directory. Thanks for the advice- I've installed all my vst's in (x86) all the others will out problems- I'm coming from XP and new to Win 7.
I'll re-install to a new foler outside the program files.
Thanks
