Hi fellows,

Since I'm almost done with the filter work, not it's time to implement the mod matrix. Why? because the rings/modulation controls around knobs take too much space, so there should be an alternative/common sense way of entering the modulation information on the UI.

For that purpose I started to implement the mod matrix.

Basicly, there'll be upto 32 entries on the matrix for:

1. Mod Destination
2. Mod Source
3. Mod type(operator) (+ or X)
4. Mod Amount

Another advantage of having a mod matrix will be the preset sizes will decrease significantly, which will speed up loading presets :tu:

The mod matrix will be global, i.e. not per layer, so on the mod matrix page ALL modulations will be seen for a preset.

So is this design sufficient? Any special requests? like... should the mod matrix be always visible on the UI (a region of the UI is reserved for it instead of putting in in a tab?)

Cheers!

Bulent

Whats the difference between X and + exactly?
Anyway, maybe the mod amount would be bipolar, to be able to set the amount negative if wished so.
A little portion (4 or 6 slots) of the mod matrix should be always visible, in order to speed up workflow. The other million should have a separate page

By the way, the new changes in 2.1 would require exactly new, redesigned presets, am I right? :P

+ is additive modulation: the modulation amount is added to the value of the modulated parameter. It's value is bipolar already, between -1, +1 so the mid value is zero.

If you want to use the new features such as the new filter types, or drift in oscillators, yes that'd require new programming. Otherwise, it's backwards compatible 8)

Hi Bulent,

I'm really looking forward to the mod matrix because I like to modulate things with multiple sources (e.g. env., velocity, aftertouch, mod-wheel,...).

OK, now to the idea (don't know how complicated it would be to implement - but perhaps to keep in mind for future) :

How about a "quantize" entry where one could set the actual steps this modulation gets. For example Velocity modulates cutoff with a quantization of "2" would mean there are only two values possible - the min and max of mod amount.
With a quantization of "4" there would be four possible steps...
This could go up to the maximum possible steps.

OK that's it for now - fantastic to see the work you are putting into it - A beast becomes "even more a beast" ;-)

Here's a "design limitation" I have to mention though:

Parameters have a "fixed" number of modulation sources, either 1 or 2 sources.
For frequently used ones I can make that 3, if any need arises.

I'll tackle that "limitation" in 3.0 maybe, so one parameter could be arbitrary number of modulation sources supported?

Good idea implementing a mod matrix, it's easier to track all your modulations in one place. :tu:

That's why I want to place them somewhere always visible. Maybe I can put the easy controls and MIDI controller assignments on the same area as well (using tabs)

I feel like Synthmaster's new gui gonna look like a red Alchemy ;)

Here's the prototype, not finalized yet though, planning to finalize it by the end of the week:

Looks cool! ;)

Things missing on this prototype:

1. Layer 1/2 on off buttons, plus layer volumes on the "Master" section.

2. For the EQ, a display would be nice, so users can see the EQ curve and edit on the display as well.

3. On the "Master" section, Global/Preset level settings for Engine quality & Buffer size settings. Global settings will be required when rendering projects at high quality settings 8)

4. Also, defining color tables in the GUI editor would make creating skins for SynthMaster easier. I'll try to squeeze that in as well.
