At least this kind of thing forces one to do some lateral thinking, which is always interesting

Hi guys, been out of the loop for a few weeks on other stuff which puts me way behind schedule here. Doubt if anything will come along as a result.Mac of BIOnighT wrote:At least this kind of thing forces one to do some lateral thinking, which is always interesting
I've just seen problems in the previous posts and I concur on my FL setup - which is usually OK when others crash and burn
Shame, as I'm a bit of an Adonis fan from Mr Serrano...
Whatever, I'll try and make the voting thread at least and hopefully pick back up with the crew fairly soon.
Best of Luck,
Mouxbar

Uploaing my track right now.
I promise next time I'll do a 3-minute track, I promise, I promise. Next time. This time is something like 18 minutes again, but it's not a suite like my previous ones, as Anubis is a great drone/ambient machine and that's the direction I went.
Just to share and not because it's relevant, this track has finally gotten in motion a project I've wanted to work on since 1995 when I conceived it. It's an album on sleep - a part of life I have a very controversial relationship with and that fascinates me a lot. It's always very exciting for me when this happens - seeing an old project take shape all of a sudden and almost spontaneously because things have finally clicked into place has some magic to it
Anyway, the track I've made for this OSC represent exactly what sleep is to me most of the time (which explains why I rarely get up refreshed and energetic...).
Title: Hybernation Chamber
Anubis x 5 (or 4, I don't remember)
EQ
Talreverb2
Stereowidening tool
Antress exciter

I'm having a problem with the upload (always stops at 22%), hope it solves itself...

I've been experimenting making patches with Anubis and - many, many crashes later - I've managed to cobble together a few sounds.
If anyone's interested they can be dl'd here:
http://www.box.net/shared/i9xqumysj3
Patches with AT, MW or BW will respond to modulation, but there's many patches that use some kind of mod. where it might not be indicated (aftertouch is used a lot!).

It's a bit quiet in here.
Does this mean that people have decided to give this one a miss, what with the instability and VCA problems?
If there's anyone still thinking of having a go, or even anyone who was put initially put off by the aforementioned issues, I think it deserves a second look.
The crashing seems to be caused where the filter cut off is pushed beyond 100% open. Either routing, say, two lots of modulation through the matrix to get a sum amplitude of over 100, or having the filter cut off knob at max and then adding further modulation etc. will usually cause a crash for me. Since working this out, I've mostly avoided the problem.
The VCA clicking, I think, is a down to the release of one note clashing with the attack of the next. Shorter release times reduce clicking, as does leaving slightly longer gaps between non legato notes. Playing legato in mono mode, non retrigger, is click free.
Other useful stuff: The misleadingly named lfo 'Offset' buttons switch the lfo's from free running to retrigger i.e. so they start at the defined phase at note on. The lfo's go up to audio rate, so, when routed to osc pitch and cut off they can be used for fm type effects (combined with 'X-mod and sync it's possible to create very harmonically complex timbres). The 'Steps' knob makes sloping or curved lfo waves steppy, which, amongst other things, can be useful for arpeggio effects (ie route an lfo to osc pitch). In the matrix under osc pitch a value of 10 is equal to one octave (a semitone is about 0.9 - a full tone is 1.7).
Putting to one side the various design idiosyncrasies, I have to say that I've been surprised with the range of timbres and the expressiveness it's possible to get out of Anubis.
For those who missed it, here's some patches I made:
http://www.box.net/shared/i9xqumysj3
All sorts of stuff, basses, leads, physical models, drums, pads, fx, FM, etc over 100 patches (I got a bit carried away) - not saying they're any good mind

hakey, it looks as though you've totally sussed Anubis' quirks out. Good job!
My pieces aren't typically in contention as contest front-runners, but this month's piece with Anubis is one of my own favorite entries, since beginning participation several months back.
So yes, i agree that Anubis can make a lot of cool sounds.

Anubis never crashed for me but sometimes went silent or the sounds of a patch suddenly changed in a buggy way. It made some cool sounds, and had a few nice ideas which I stole for my own synth.
I don't think I will be using it again.
Stringz 2 for the next osc is great though. I will use that again for sure.
I already finished my track for it I think.

Dang, I'm gonna miss this one. Have no time/inspiration, it has nothing to do with Anubis.
Where's that fcukin' muse gone?

Well, I've got the title worked out so now for the easy bit.
But time is against me now, as the great one once sang.... so we shall see...
