Hi,

I'm currently testing the demo, or rather the small version of the program and am looking at the MIDI Monitor plugin.

What I am finding is often there are two similar note on commands, with the first having Value3 = 0 while the second only having an entry for Value1.

What is happening is I am getting two distinct triggers and no matter what I do in the hardware, ie pads it is still interpreted as being two note ons when in fact it is simply meant to mark a decrease in volume albeit a crude method I believe Mdrummer should support it.

Hope someone can help here

Hi there, I don't really understand. Are you monitoring MDrummer's MIDI output? Based on what?

CHeers!

Hi,

Thanks for responding.

I found that it seems in terms of design, dual-triggers are best put with dual trigger mode converters.

Also, some of the newer hardwares, eg TMC-6 work better for some triggers (stereo) than others eg RM-50 (mono).

I have a DTXplorer as well with RHH135 hi-hats.

All boxes feed into a MIDI merger which produces one midi output that is plugged into a computer midi interface and software.

I will experiment more and write back.

Thanks again

Hi, I'm still not sure what is this all about, so please let me know how it looks, if there are some troubles.

MDrummer would seem to be less tolerant of double-trigger and this might be good insofar as testing is concerned, however it is not good for performance.

Also, the sounds being so defined really exposes the problem.

HTH's since I'd like to be able to make use of this system, particularly the hi-hat, but it's not like the sound is "phasing", ie the same MIDI messages coming from two different locations such as a USB midi interface of a keyboard and also it's midi port into a standalone USB midi interface, rather it is picking up the decay of each trigger, that is the scanning of vibrations in the hardware.

Hope that makes it clear.

I'm afraid I'm not really sure, so I'll try to fill the gaps :
You are having a hardware, which on each hit generate 2 "note on" MIDI messages (which is really weird), so MDrummer plays 2 hits at the same time. This of course results in several problems given realisticity stuff and things like that.

Hi,

I'm using the MIDI monitor in cubase and there seems what are two or more note on's with the occasional note off following one or the latest note on data.

Always the later arrivals are lower in volume which indicates less vibrations on the part of the hardware and this is merely picked up by the trigger converter units since my scan times are as close to zero as possible and there is no self-reject or background noise rejection, ie crosstalk since that interferes with rudiments and so on.

The crosstalk is never really an issue as the host tends to sort that out but rejecting later arrivals appears to be something Mdrummer cannot do while other programs pretty much ignore it and it is not reproduced.

I hope something can be done here since your program worked a treat in terms of initial setup of the pads, note numbers etc., ie GM compliance but it is otherwise unplayable.

Also, why does Mdrummer need to start up with a pattern, can it not be made to simply play back one-shot samples?

Thank you

Aaaaha, now that's clear ;). Ok, added to to-do list. It now ignores "note-on" - "note-off" sequences, because so far there was no case like this.

And to make MDrummer play notes, you just need to use MIDI channel 10 (as defined by GM) or go to Globals/Settings and set it to "always use channel 10" or something like that. I believe it was noted in the splash screen wasn't it?

Hi there,

Thank you so much for your responsiveness.

I will wait to see what happens with that note on/off stuff, however about the GM business, personally what I'd like to see is those sequences being activated via notes outside the designated GM based drum map standard, since being drums it is and has been "set in stone" so to speak, however what might be even better is some sort of playlist functionality whereby you can assign particular midi file sequences, eg loops to certain other notes that aren't already reserved.

I only suggest the above since it would seem that MDrummer has such great velocity response and wide dynamics I feel if people were educated more regarding hardware triggering that maybe even for most purposes acoustic drums might serve as either museum pieces or sample quarry.

Best regards

My pleasure and thanks Ristof ;).

I'm afraid I don't understand this one very well again :). Maybe because I don't speak english natively?
Anyway at first sight it is like you are talking about the "MIDI command method"? You know, triggering commands using MIDI notes. There's a video tutorial about it, so if I'm right, check it please at

This would be correct and I will check out the video when I can.

P.S. Really slick website you got going there

Thanks! I guess this was a compliment, I hope :D.
I like our website, but still from people complain about it from time to time. Well, nothing works for everyone :).

It's an awesome feat for someone who I suspect would rather spend their time writing software but in any case you have good offers I may want to take up in future but as for me and my situation I must await your next move.

All the best
