Maybe we should have a Topic for users to post music"Made With MuLab" here....

Yes, that would be good.liquidsound wrote:Maybe we should have a Topic for users to post music"Made With MuLab" here....

And, as well as being a 'showcase', it would also be very helpful to new users - letting them quickly see the interaction between Parts, Targets, Racks, etc, in MU.LAB.

I think that makes a nice "best of..." thread of some kind. I also think MULAB could easily become big enough to deserve a more dedicated forum with some extra functionality, but I understand that this keeps things simple. The Reason community created reasonstation.net, which is a moral mess at times, but it shows how fans can put together something worthy. But yeah...
I also hate when they "RATE" music, which invites trouble, trolls and misunderstandings. Eventually the best wanting crowd ends up only giving the highest notes or avoid it alltogether, haha. But music should not be a race, it makes it insincere. The strongest music comes out of honesty. Feedback helps to refine the language.
Is Jo allowed to create subforums here? If so, it would be brilliant to have:
user TUTORIALS
user SHOWCASE
user ASSETS
Or something like that. People could create their own gallery thread to post their programs, songs or revelations. Maybe a bit of a moderation gig, but people here are somewhat mature enough, I think.

Also, I've just been playing your "taron-glitter.MuSession"
[ http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... c882d53188 ]
Really enjoyed it - and it perfectly illustrates what I was trying to say in my previous post, above. A picture (or Mu.Session) is worth a thousand words !
Thanks for sharing.

Hi All,
C, C#, D, D# E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B
We all have the same twelve notes to play with and it always amazes me how many songs/tracks have been written over the years.
All music is valid whether it is a classical piece or a totally off the wall experimental music piece.
Whether your music is loved by millions or just a few it is still a labour of love and always deserves respect.
Rating music is not really my cup of tea. I like what I like and others like what they like.
I always enjoy seeing other peoples mu.sessions posted on this forum especially if it is not in my usual style of music writing. For example I am no great fan of Jazz but I like seeing how someone has put together a Jazz piece. It is good for me to step out of my comfort zone and you never know I may even have some of my future music written as a Jazz hybrid.
Most of the music I write is very complex and requires many tracks (MU.LAB UNLIMITED) and commercial VSTi etc. BUT with some thought I could simplify some of my stuff so that it will work in MU.LAB FREE and also use MU.LAB synths and presets etc.
A mu.session takes up little space and is easily transported around the internet via file share type web sites etc.
Many of us think "What if my music is not good enough". It is that one thought that stops us and it should not. All music is valid it may not be everyone's cup of tea but at least it is music and someone will like it somewhere in the world.
Anyway bottom line is I think having a place to post user made mu.sessions and that kind of thing is a great idea.

Hi All,
I thought some more on this …
Users could also post mu.sessions that demonstrate techniques rather than just complete songs.
I use many MIDI techniques in my songs and you could call these tips and tricks.
Rather than post a mu.session of one of my complete songs. It may be more interesting for users to see how I build arpeggio patterns, drum beats and double tracking techniques etc etc.
Anyway just an idea.

Tobybear's Microtuner is awesome for this, 'cos it uses pitch bend on different channels, enabling you to use it on synths without support for microtonality.pljones wrote:Nah, that's what pitch bend is for...TheGuysanIdiot wrote:C, C#, D, D# E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B
We all have the same twelve notes to play with...Atonal and alternative tunings still make it music..!
Still only manage to use it for a bit of spice here and there myself though, in the common geetaw stylee -- and I can't grasp microtonal harmony at all.

Indeed that is why I mentioned experimental music in my previous post.
Anything goes.

Absolutely I agree on "No Ratings".
That is a Winners and Looser mentality and restricts spontaneity.
Not only we need to show what can be done with MuLab but very much HOW.
In fact is the HOW that made me switch here (beside the developer integrity).
It is always a Cool thing to see how MuLab flexibility it's implemented by an experienced user (which I am not yet...) and it can attract not only a new beginner level user but it may trigger a professional user's interest as well, and MuLab is ready for them in a big way.
This Daw is amazingly refreshing and it needs more samples in a form of little songs showing off its little secrets.
Taron nice flute is an example of flexibility with the modular set up.
I hope I will be able to participate not just with music but with innovative ways to use this Gem of a DAW.

Hi All,
Reading the comments so far it looks like posting mu.sessions is a good idea.
Using short songs, How To and techniques etc.
So how are we going to do this.
If we post in a topic like this topic it will become enormous and with all the comments and feedback etc it will be hard to find the actual files etc.
I am keen to have a system where anyone can post a mu.session and not have to go through some kind of approval first. Users should feel free to post any kind of mu.session that they feel may be of use to others etc. (obviously respecting copyright etc).
How can we do this so it is easy to navigate through all the posting etc.
Is the KVR forum the right place for this. Everyone has access to it via their login. Is there a sub forum "bucket" for such postings.
Hope all the above makes sense.
Bottom line sounds like a good idea but what is the best way to do this?

Indeed a good idea. And a good question: how to do this?
I won't be possible via mutools.com. (besides doing the MU.LAB Demo Sessions page http://www.mutools.com/mulab-demo-sessions.html which contains a selection of demo sessions)
So i think it should go via this forum. A subforum would be ideal. Does anyone knows whether that's possible with a phpBB forum?
