Maybe MySpace could be a solution. It can easily do Audio and Videos, Friends (Users, Musicians...)
Or
Jo needs to create a separate web space just this which could be a better solution for new visitors/customer going to his site and access a wealth of information, samples, tutorial, tips, music, quotations etc. etc.

Not a Forum, Boring!!! But more as a showcase.

I'm afraid i can't do it myself due to time reasons.

But i'll be happy to support the one(s) setting this up!

MUTOOLS.com itself is not an option as it can't accept anonymous uploads.

MUTOOLS forum - MySpace - Facebook - Youtube - and what's next...

I'm not sure which of these would be the best place to create a neat environment to share MU.LAB resources. Not very experienced on that. But i do know it's worth it as it matches one of the main future challenges for MU.LAB: Even more exchangeability.

Please lets think this over well and choose a future-proof platform where users can exchange sessions, sequences, MuSynth/MUX presets, ...

Of course, the choosen platform should be able to receive and transmit a lot (many gigs per week) of Mu-data, while the received data must be monitorable so that the platform doesn't get junked/spammed.

In addition to the extra web space (MySpace, Facebook, or whatever), would it be feasible to also have a dedicated MUTOOLS sub-forum, with each 'song' having it's own Topic (as in the KVR Music Cafe)?

Then, as well as linking to the external space, this would also provide a place for comments and feedback - in the familiar surroundings of KVR.

Or would that be over-complicating things ?

Hi Les,

I have looked at the KVR Music Cafe.

I am quite new to forums and the MUTOOLS forum is the only forum I have ever posted on and I have been viewing or posting comments for about a year.

Unfortunately I have become addicted to this forum and it uses up more of my time than I should really allow. But I am addicted to it so I will make time for it.

OK back to the KVR Music Cafe.

In an ideal world you would need a KVR MUTOOLS Cafe that sits under the current MUTOOLS forum a kind of sub forum that many have already spoken about.

In this KVR MUTOOLS Cafe, users can post mu.sessions etc via links to external file sharing services or the users own web servers.

Each file does indeed start a new topic. Users can then discuss the file and post file responses in the same topic and the original user can post updated versions of their original file. Generally speaking all the files or indeed links to files are related to that topic. Just look at "taron's little sessions" it is already working this way.

Until some other system is used in the future we already have most of what we are looking for here.

"Spooky stuff" was a tune written by pljones and it too had its own topic title, some feedback from users and I found it quite easily on the third page of this forum.

So I believe "nature will always find a way" basically pljones is well known on this forum and taron is new here. Both found the same way to post files or indeed links.

So in some respects we already have our system.

But with all things there are pros and cons. It may be worth looking at the cons. They may not be show stoppers.

Until an all singing all dancing system arrives we may as well do what taron and pljones have already done.

I have written this to get feed back from others.

What do you all think?

Not sure where KVR sits, but a forum normally offers the option to enable attachments to posts. With a subforum for muSessions that has attachments enabled up to some size (normally up to 1024kb) it could already do the trick.

I quickly checked what i can do as an administrator but don't see anything about sub forums. I also quickly checked around Kvr and couldn't find anything about it. I think we can't do a subforum here. We'll have to search further.

Years ago (Muzys era) we did inside elektronicabcn.com a "Muzys sounds and patches area" where Muzys users where able to upload his contributions without size restrictions etc but due to the end of the Muzys project it hasn't got so much succes.

Maybe bringing a thing like this again to live would be helpfull for us all, what do you think?... No promises at this moment because i need to talk with the friend that developed this for me, but i'm confiddent i'll be able to rescue the code. On the other hand, i actually don't have (and can't pay) a server with some GB monthly transfer, but there may be solutions... i don't know, any ideas?

That sounds nice! I hope you'll find a server.

I wonder if one can at least make sticky threads?

Hi Juan, I still have some of the elektronicabcn Muzys stuff around..! :) Nice to see you back again.

My current site on GoDady is costing $30 per year for hosting, $10 a year for DNS, for 300GB per month bandwidth (I'm using 0.22% of it, but it's the lowest they do...). They're a bit meaner on disk space: only 10GB. I've no idea what an idea like this would take.

Post

With strong enough moderation to avoid clutter it should actually be quite sufficient, I'd imagine. Attachments should not exceed a certain size or so. But if it went up to 50Gigs that would feel nicer.

Not sure what's the world of Ads out there, while I hate it, but it could help to finance it. I have no clue how that works, though.

This one gives 50GB free for storage and file sharing.
http://www.adrive.com/

Maybe a starting solution is for each user that wants to share his/her music to open an account and just post the link to the file from a defined Topic that it's dedicated to MuLab Music only.
It seems to allow up to 1000 files per upload with a maximum of 2GB per file.

I did not have time to look more into the fine-print
I use Box.net but it cost money and the free account it's too limited.

Again this is not an ideal solution as with a sub-forum etc. but it's a starting point since it looks like a system that could work as we wish is going to take lots of work and time and some of us has not the time neither the skills to do this.

It could happen sooner but it's up to us. I rather have Jo focusing on his growing business. I am ready to participate but I need to understand more what it's required to launch such a service.

I'm not too wild about those sticky threads because they clutter the forum a bit, imho. A subforum would be much more interesting. But not possible on Kvr, afaik.

I'll also think further how we can organize this so we have a neat webplace where MU stuff can be uploaded (moderated), downloaded, commented, updated etc.

Hi All,

Indeed a future bespoke solution sounds like the way to go.

Unfortunately I am not getting any younger and I am feeling the need to up load something or I should say post an external link to my file/files hosted on a free file share service. Pretty much how Taron has done recently.

I am not sure what to post first. It may be a MIDI trick. It may be that I will sample my drum kit. It may be that I sample my bass guitars or I might just do a MU.LAB FREE 4 track song.

Anyway you could call this the MU.LAB underground. The stuff I would do would be short songs, techniques and basic drum samples that would come in the MultiSampla format. None of my stuff is intended to be polished professional work and should not really go on to the MUTOOLS web site.

I am keen to share some of my stuff but I do not have much time each day for music related projects. That is why I can contribute some rough ideas/samples/songs etc.

Mihai Sorohan's work is extremely professional and that has found a place on the MUTOOLS web site and indeed it will help showcase MU.LAB etc. If we put Mihai's work at one end of the scale I would place my contributions at the other end of the scale.

Anyway, I will now go off and think about what to send you all first. But remember these will not be works of art. They will be rough songs, unprocessed samples and general MIDI tips etc.

Hopefully this will encourage other MU.LAB users to post similar unpolished works.

If and when a bespoke system is made available assuming anyone has the time, my stuff could then be moved there at a later date.

I feel I must strike while the iron is hot or I will loose my enthusiasm.

Well, heck, I can't wait to check out your mini-tunes! :D
Doesn't matter what comes first, really. Just get the ball rolling. Try to pick something that represents the nature of your interest, the direction which you enjoy the most. It's a good introduction to yourself as a musician, you know.

Guys !
How about a thread named "Remix me with Mu.Lab" where users put a project file (compatible with the free version I think would be the best) and the others download, remix/ transform it and upload it again.

Like "Simple Piano melody" by Mihai_Sorohan... then "Simple Piano melody" by Mihai_Sorohan Taron mix1, "Simple Piano melody" by Mihai_Sorohan OZ mix2... etc...

And best mixes can be featured on http://www.mutools.com/mulab-demo-sessions.html if Jo find the idea good...
