a long awaited feature update for this is to have selective freezing (IE rather than bouncing everything down to one file, bounce individual chunks down to seperate files). This would make freeze a very useful tool for dealing with those times when the hardware just can't cut it.
I'm suprised Jules is even bothering to make a Mac version,
I get the feeling this was a big part of the deal that Jules signed with Mackie. The mac version really jumped up the priority list not long before the Mackie deal was announced.
I will come back in a few months, because Tracktion is VERY promising, and I've spreada good buzz about it to all my pro buddies around here.
Hopefully we'll see you around here in a few months time then. :)

Ok, I tried to scan through the 17 pages of postings before asking this so give me a break if it's been asked already.

My good friend just started on Tacktion and wants to know where to go to add VST's to the midi tracks. I stopped by his house yesterday and didn't have enough time to fool with it. I could only mess with the GM stuff and record midi sends.

I don't have it so if someone wouldn't mind explaining it here so I could show him with a link to this thread later.

Afraid that if you're using GM (with output track set to midi) you can't add any VST plug ins, effects etc.

You can however if you're using VSTi's. Once you have them loaded into your system - usually stored in the plug-ins folder, you add them to a track in the same way you add any other filter in Tracktion - i.e. select the VSTi from the filter list on the top right, and drag it to the right of the desired track where the default level controls are. Any other effect can be added to it in the same way from the filters list.

Hope this is what you were asking.

a quick Q which doesn't justify a separate thread. Should I assume that Tracktion doesn't allow multiple audio input recording, and its absence in the V2 list means it won't have it soon?

It's not an issue for me at the moment as I only have a humble stereo input which I usually use for 2 tracks - but if I wanted to upgrade for live band recordings etc...

Perhaps it already supports this and I'm only getting A and B input markers displayed because of the card I'm using. If so, appologies.

Post

You have as many audio inputs as your card offers.

If you want an extra input with your current card, go into the audio settings and unclick the 'treat as stereo pair' option which will give you two mono ins rather than one stereo.

I'm using both the SPDIF and the analogue input on my audiophile together qute happily.

sorry valley - wasn't clear. That's what I'm doing now, and neets my needs for the moment. But should I at a later date invest in another card, say with 8 inputs, will this be compatible - i.e. can each of the 8 inputs be assigned to a separate track.

Sorry for labouring the point, just wanted to be clear on this. I thought it could, but then heard rumblings otherwise which caused eyebrows to raise...

Yes, no problem, done it myself :)

Thanks for the info. I already passed this on to my buddy and I hope it helps him. In the meantime, back to cubase for me.

hi all, perhaps you can provide some direction for me
ok, i'm on the newest mac version...
i've got several samples in an edit that are chopped into hundreds of pieces. the paths to the samples are all broken now for some reason. how do i fix each sample's path? the "search for lost material" button requires me to locate the file for every single instance of the sample (which will take me hours to get through all of them). on top of that, it crashes often when i hit the button.

i've tried moving the samples around, but haven't discovered how paths are drawn and relative to what... (app? project? edit?)

help! i just broke down and upgraded from the demo because i had a whole song sequenced... now i can't get at it

thanks

Is there a tutorial on how to use Rewire? am trying to Rewire Abelton Live but don't see how it is done. I have put in a Rewire filter into a midi track and open a live track but there is no sound.

Ok I got it to work. I don't know why it didn't maybe my soundcard drivers went poof.

Sorry!

Hi,
after finally getting Tracktion to work i got a few questions right now...

First, how do i get to record a new clip BEHIND an already recorded clip on the same track? Whatever i choose on the Midi Input Action (ie overlay new clips etc), it always "overwrites" the old clip by recording at the beginning...thats really driving me mad!?

Second, is there an "elegant" possibility to make clips loop right/seamlessy? For example, i record a small melody with my midi keyboard that i want to use for the entire song. Instead of playing the same part 5 minutes long, i simply want to loop it, but i cant get it right because there is always a gap if i copy a clip and paste it behind the other.

Thanks :)

leo: did you get your problem sorted yet? Since your post wasn't extremely detailed, it's hard to tell exactly what went wrong. Also, is this the full version from the website, or the one distributed on a CD?

If it's the normal full version, the easiest thing to do is the following:

1. click in the 'about' box in Tracktion to get your machine's ID number
2. Go to the download section of the website, log in with the e-mail address you used during purchase, and enter the ID # (or just double-check, if it's already filled in automatically)
3. Download a copy of the program and/or a new key.
4. Install and use the keyfile as normal.

If you do it this way, there should be no such thing as an "unregistered machine"... it's your e-mail address that's confirmation of your ID, and then your machine number allows you to download a keyfile that will work on your machine.

To be honest with you, I'm only guessing around here, so if you haven't got it sorted yet, a more detailed explanation of the problem might be helpful.

Cheers,
Greg
