So many threads in the forum are ACE this or ACE that (totally deserved of course :-)) so I thought I would post an audio sample of the latest plucked string sound I made last night with Zebra just cause I don't want that striped animal to feel left out!! hehehe

I've been experimenting with controlling sounds more precisely over some octave range by using the modmapper to adjust a parameter key by key. the expanded modmapper editor allows this though it is a bit tedious, but can make a sound more consistent/integrated over that range and provides a subtle control not close to possible with the usual keyfollow modulator.

My heart loves ACE - but my head, is never happier than when twiddlin' with me ZEBRA :D

Ace sounds better, it's simply true .. I never liked Zebra but I bought Ace immediately after demoing it! It's just in another league soundwise. Granted that Zebra is very versatile and good too but in the raw sound department it loses to Ace

Very nice plucked sound, pdxindy.

I like ACE, but still primarily use Zebra. I love its flexibility and the way it sounds.

I think I saw the video of that somewhere on the web before.

edit: Oh. They're both great in their own unique ways, and serve up better sounds within their realms.
I'm still working on a big bank of presets for Zebra. Once finished I will get to ACE and really hope to discover new things about it.

I love ACE for modern electronic sounds. I'm demoing Synth Squad atm and i probably need to spend more time with the synths but so far i prefer ACE! I need to check Zebra out again as it gets so much love but each time i demo it i come away somewhat neutral. I think it sounds good but it doesn't inspire me, but i understand it's meant to be a workhorse synth?

Anyway on topic, The pluck sounds great. I probably wouldn't guess that that was synthesized if i heard it in a track. :)

So am i the only one who Zebrafy's my ACE?

why just have one when you can HAVE IT ALL!!?

i have all the OSC's of Zebra plus the OSC's of ACE (or ACE's if i make my patch in a modular environment)

anyway, i think Baz is my favorite sounding U-He synth :P

:hihi:

I'll just come out and say it. Zebra sounds better to me than ACE.

I don't know why but I like Zebra 2 more thank ACE.
Maybe that it are the presets.
ACE sounds more rough in my ears while Zebra 2 has more beautiful and perfect sounding presets. When I play some Zebra presets I have new ideas for new songs.
That does not happened when I play with ACE. Strange but true.

while i always think it's cool to hear sounds that are typical for what zebra can do like pdxindy's pluck above -

i don't understand at all the "better than" thing. this can concern only sounds that you can do in both instruments. but there are so many sounds only one of them can do - so, what's the point in comparing them like this?

plus, the sounds you can do in both synths do not sound that different to me in themselves. i am more interested what can be done in different patches.

in fact, i think the "sound" (meaning "basic sound" whatever that is) of different synthesizers is much overrated from a musical perspective.
