ianweb123 wrote:The randomness is totally by design, actually. the original design idea was to come up with an instrument (bowed string mostly) that sounded as if it was being played with up and down strokes of the bow. So that continuous streams of notes had that random quality to them..
And I think you captured that very well.
Only thing is, I ( personally ) like to have some control over the endresult.
I once rendered a track where a free running LFO was controlling the res/filter/pitch combination, and it sounded great !.. changed the drums a little, rendered again... and I thought WTF is this ? rendered again, different again, never got it back, tried syncing the LFO... not the same.
From that moment on I hate FREERUNNING LFO's  I sync all my LFO's ( If possible ).

Saying that, I really had FUN with StringZ2, It does have a lot of character, and some of the sounds are unigue, and very string/brass/trumpet/reed/sax like.
What scared me the most was the variable dynamics, so the first thing I did was switch on the limiter. :)

Lovely instrument  and you could say : very human :hihi:

Hi,

Here's my modest submission for KVR OSC 15 Entry: Stringz_Expressions-GilJ
Ableton Live
15 instances of StringZ2
Live's native Eq8
No external effects used, only some light dynamics with these 2 plugins:
Tls - 3127 Leveling Amplifier
Tls - Pocket Limiter

I think I spent more time killing and restarting my host (and even rebooting my computer!) than trying to do some sound design and composing this little track :-o
Hope you'll like it. All opinions are welcomed!

Cheers,
GilJ.

Oops, I just noticed that I was not the only one who had the idea of naming the track this way and that there was already a submission named No Stringz attached
Is there a way for me to change the name of the track please?

Thanks,
GilJ.

Wait for Tattie to come back from wherever he's at at the moment, and he will sort it out for you.

Welcome to the OSC. 8)

Just had the first proper listen to all the tracks submitted so far.. You guys are amazing.. what you have coaxed out of this is really terrific.. Being Cheeky, I would love it if I had all the patches used to be sent to me as fxp's and I would assemble them into a bank of patches to put up on the Krakli site, but of course I understand why some of you might not think that that is a a good idea..!

Post

Hi Tattie,

Could you delete my submission No_Stringz_Attached-GilJ which has been renamed (and uploaded) as Stringz_Expressions-GilJ, please?

Thanks,
GilJ.

I'd really love to see how people got drums out of it.

Hi GilJ ... welcome to OSC! ... and cheers for the submission! :) ... yeah, no probs, I'll delete said file.
I'd really love to see how people got drums out of it.
JamesO, I look forward to that also :hihi: ... I certainly abandoned the idea early on!! :-o

Ian, I'll open up a file for patches and collect them if folks want to submit them :)

OK GilJ .... done! :)

..And here's the link to the folder to upload your StringZ presets

http://StringZpresets.4shared.com/

... NOTE! ... there are two subfolders there .... one for StringZ presets, and the other for StringZ2 presets .... be good, and sort them out properly!!!! :hihi:

Anyway, I've got lost in learning C++ for most of today, so I'm knackered, and need some kip ... catch you all tomorrow ... the last day for submissions!! :-o

I hope you enjoy listening to this little tune like I enjoyed making it.
