Just some brainstorming and seeing if any of these ideas resonate - the contest doesn't have to explicitly follow this, or anything.

People did want some ACE contest eventually. I know the more technically-themed contests don't enthuse everyone, but just for an introductory contest I think limiting the number of cables could be easy to understand, easy to follow, and just emphasize what's cool with ACE. Otherwise something like Keys, Leads, Bass etc. would work too.

As always, any other ideas or feedback mean a lot. Thanks!

An ACE contest would definitely be nice, but please don't stop the Zebra contests.

Why not up to entry limit to 5 per person (or more)?

I was thinking about something like that for the anything-goes contest - it's really hard to judge presets that are very different, but if we asked for like, 3 or 4 patches, and shuffled up the voting such that it's a cumulative score per person? It would be easy enough to group patches by author anonymously, I could just assign substitute letters in the patch name. Voters could just vote for their favorite letters.

I think thats a very good idea!

I am going to venture a guess to why ACE cannot muster enough votes. I think what we are dealing with here is that there are far more Zebra licenses out there than ACE and that people voting who own these licenses are interested in some *more* free sounds. Am I right? ;) No matter. It is just a shame that we won't ever see an ACE contest until the licenses get out there more (and general interest, for that matter). In other words, I believe there is much interest and votes by the actual programmers who own can use ACE but this will never out number those interested in free sounds for Zebra. Just a hypothesis. ;)

I don't think it's a good idea.
For one, I wouldn't do more than 2 per competition.
The one who does 5 has an unfair advantage in voting, compared to the one who has 1 or 2 presets entered. The results would end up with more ties for 1-2-3 place, and the people who contribute in the voting process is already too low.
In fact, people who entered and supposed to vote did not do so. There's more entered than there is to vote on them.

I believe that a poll vote should be added, to make those count for 1 point each vote. This will make more people, who for whatever reason don't want to post their vote, vote.

I also believe an anything goes ZPC (at this time) is a bad idea.
The lead might be excellent, but someone will just vote for the pad, because that's what they like, not because it's designed any better than the lead.
Try a "Soundscape" ZPC. Movie sci-fi or horror type stuff.
Zebra is excellent at those.

I guess I kinda blew it there then, it just seemed odd, since I wanted to put one of my entries in a top 3 spot, and well, that just seemed too awkward to actually do I guess.

The idea about anonymous points or whatever might be better overall, as long as each person/screen name or whatever can only vote once, or top 3 one time etc. :)

Oh, and congrats on the win in #9 by the way. :)

I like this. I think it might open the doors to the suspician of cheating. But I don't really think anyone doing this will cheat.

I also think we should have some kind of BIG blow out, last zebra contest, and then give the focus to Ace, but I'm probably in the minority there too (with good reason).

No problem with that, if we allow each one who entered 1 vote extra toward their favorite patch, including their own. It would be a given 1 vote for 1 point.
They can be allowed that second vote. Only one poll that can only be voted once (because that's all it will automatically allow), and you can vote for your own preset. So long as it gives other people who want anonymity, a chance to vote.

The other rules for people who enter presets will stay the same. They "must" post their top 3, and not choose their own presets within the thread.
This might get many more votes outside only the people who entered.
As the last 2 only had a couple of people not entering, who voted.
Maybe it's worth a try to see how it goes. Just an idea.

Thanks for the discussion, right now it looks to me like "some kind of bizzaro dramatic evolving sound art" theme could be the next contest, and I'm definitely willing to try the poll options for voting. (I can't remember if I resisted that in the past or not ... it seems like a good idea now  :D ). "Anything goes" can be saved for some sort of special occasion or something.

[e] Barring the unforseen, will post something official on Monday
