Hi,

I'm having a problem with MU Lab. I have connected my synth (Casio CZ101) via a midi to USB connector to MU Lab.

The problem is, I can play my synth through it, but I can only use synthia, and the other preset synths, I cannot hear my own synth through it, i.e casio cz101 sounds.

Does anyone know how I can play it through so I can hear the CZ 101 and not the synths that come with the program?

Thanks!

A few steps involved ...
1. You have a midi cable from the computer (MIDI OUT) to the MIDI IN port on the CZ101.
2. Under Edit>Midi Setup in Mulab ... set up the computer MIDI OUT in the list of output ports.
3. restart Mulab.
4. Now on whatever track you want to direct midi events to the CZ101, Right click the rack, and select Choose Target Module. The Output port will be one of the selections.

Just to be clear.

MIDI is not audio.

The MIDI cable from your synth to MU.LAB is not carrying the sound your synth is making -- just what keys you press (and how hard and a few other things).

As jph says, if you want to hear the synth, you need to tell MU.LAB to send MIDI back out to the synth, so the synth will play.

If you want to record the audio from your synth, you'll need to take a cable from the Audio Out on the synth to an audio input on your computer. (If you're on a PC, use an audio input with an ASIO driver.)

What sound card you have? Also yeah, Mac or PC?
The folk here will have you up and running.
What you can do also is play the Casio with mutools sequencer via a midi lead :)
Not that you can't route audio into mutools, but just something else you might like to try:)
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

Hey,

Thank you so much for the replies!

Ok, so what I have at the moment is a Mac connected via USB to a minisport 2x2 (USB to midi) and the midi out on the CZ going into the midi in on the midisport.

I will follow jpumphandle's steps and let you know how it goes.

Thanks again!

Man, to hear your synth you have to have the AUDIO cable plugged into your soundcard.
At the moment, you use your synth only as a MIDI controller.

Ok, so I tried connecting it up through the audio port too, and still I'm getting nothing.

Are their any instructions on how to connect everything, and set it up.

Basically what I want to do is at the end of this video:

When he records it in, its out of time and when he plays it back MU creates an in time sequence.

I messaged him and he said just to connect the midi of the CZ into MU.Lab.

Please help!

Thanks!

You also need the midi cable to go from the MIDI OUT on the 2x2 to the MIDI IN on the CZ. This will carry any midi events from Mulab that have been routed to the MIDI OUT port to the CZ to trigger the CZ synth. The cable you describe above carries the Midi events generated by your keyboard to the MIDI IN of the MAC.

As pointed out by others, you still need to route the output of the synth to an amp or back into Mulab. If you want to go back into Mulab, then connect the Audio output of the CZ to the LINE IN jack on the MAC. In Mulab, you need to set up a track to hear the audio input from the CZ.

Use Edit>Setup Record Audio and setup your LINE IN (Mono or stereo) and indicate a rack to process the audio signal. This should allow you to hear the CZ when you play the keys or send a sequence to the MIDI IN of the CZ.
