With 'both' you mean the 3.1.0 package and the 3.1.2 patch?cytone wrote:Strange. I downloaded both again. Installed them in a new directory and am still getting the synth's show as small boxes when opened. It looks like it's just me thenmutools wrote:Yes.
MU.LAB 3.1.x is a test version.
It needs a full package install cfr the info on http://www.mutools.com/mulab31.html
If yes, are you sure you properly replaced the application file by the new patch application file? You should get something like Overwrite? or Replace? from your OS.

Maybe the "Level Threshold" parameter can be removed as it's a bit complicating for newbies.mutools wrote:Indeed, i see what you mean, will be finetuned.pljones wrote:What surprised me is that the level was well below the -48dB threshold but still a part was created.
Maybe it's better to simply use an internal default value of -48 dB (think that's a good value, right?) and eventually allow to overwrite this internal default using a preference.
Removing the "Level Threshold" from the recording setup page will simplify things.
Agreed?

Yes, installed 3.1.0 then replaced the exe with the 3.1.2 patch. This is what the devices show as:mutools wrote:

Euh, something must have gone wrong with your installation.
Seems like the graphic files can be found.
Please retry carefully. I'm quite sure it must be on your side.

I've now recorded using a piano, and suddenly it does work. However, one must first click on "Record audio." Not sure a new user would be able to see this step.mutools wrote:How to record a VSTi?
Simple:
1) Plugin the VSTi
2) Hit record
But so you want to record the audio output of a VSTi?
It's still simple (imho):
1) Plugin the VSTi
2) Enable Record Audio (yes, necessary step, nothing to do about it)
3) Right-click Record Audio and select the VSTi (or the rack it sits in) as "Record From"
4) Hit record
(please make sure to use version 3.1.2 or later as there was some recording bug in the previous 3.1.x)
Ah!!!!! Now I see. Works. I must say that I'm not surprised that earlier I didn't find that "Record from" by right-clicking on the Record Audio button. That command is, well, hidden. A vote, here, for putting it on the Transport bar in plain view. A left-to-right sequence might be good: 1. Record from. 2. Record. (?) Having it behind a right-click, one of the least used methods to do something with a mouse, hides it.
Two other questions, though, when you have time.
1. Once the audio track was recorded, I tried to listen to it. I could hear the sequencer replay the track of course, but I wanted to hear the wave file. Had to mute the track that contained the midi sequence, of course. But when I then selected the "Audio out" track (if it's called a track?) and clicked on play, I didn't hear the wave play as the track bar moved across it. Seems that I need to activate something else, but I'm not finding what it is. In addition, after I opened the audio file in the internal wave editor and clicked on the Play button, the bar moved across the wave, but no sound came out. The sound does play when I play the sequence, so I have the basic audio connections set up correctly.
2. I'm confused about having to click on the Record Audio button and then click on Record. If clicking on the Record audio is needed to record to either a wave file or a sequence, shouldn't just clicking on Record do whatever it does? (I've used quite a few sequencers that can record both midi and audio, and I don't think I've seen this two stage record before--but maybe I've just set it up and then forgotten about it...)

More info in my previous post: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 40#4081540
About the error on my side: I was confused because i applied the patch locally and it worked, but the problem was only with the mutools synths/effects, so i didn't see it in my quick test. Hope all is ok now.

Then what if there are 2 or more recorders i.e. multi-track recording?Jake Jackson wrote:Ah!!!!! Now I see. Works. Do you use MU.LAB FREE? If yes, maybe the recorded track was on track 5, which is auto muted as part of the limits of MU.LAB FREE. Move the track up and it will play.1. In other sequencers you typically must 'arm' a track for recording. In fact it's the same thing.I'm confused about having to click on the Record Audio button and then click on Record. EDIT: No, ignore what I wrote below--it was working fine until I tried to start MuSynth, and then I got the little box again. I'll download the next revision.
About the little box that appeared instead of an insert: I had the same problem until I copied over my old User settings contents to the new User settings folder. Once I did that, the little box went away and everything was fine.

Yes. That was the problem. It will be a problem for anyone who uses the free version, since four tracks are automatically created, and any audio recording is placed on the fifth, dead, track.
