I'm just about to buy a RECEPTOR 2 and i would like some help from owners of this gear. I'm wondering the stability on stage of such hardware, since I'm planing to use it live mostly. And do you think it can replace my current FANTOM XR with 6 SRX?
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
I'm using Receptor since 2007 on the road. It's in a 2x14 Flight Case and
I sent it Overseas several times with Air Cargo. So yes it's Rock Solid!
Receptor could replace any Synth, but it's intended to use Vsti's without a Computer.
It would be a great addition to your Fantom, but replacing it (all samples & sounds)
would be tortuous (my opinion).

Have the right expectations and you will be very satisfied using Receptor.
Namely - look over the list of supported plug ins on Plug-o-rama - if you are happy with those plug ins then go for it - do not believe any marketing or hype that Receptor is going to run anything else. If it can run something else in the future that is a bonus - but if you think of Receptor as a ROMpler type rack mount then you won't be as frustrated as many us that "XXX" plug in is not supported yet. Buy Receptor for the plug ins it supports today - not because of any promises that it will run something in the future - cause that will only get you mad. If you search this forum you will find lots of posts that NI6 is supported or Pianotek 3.5 or the latest versions of whatever.
If compatibility with the latest and greatest plugins is important get a Macbook. As it is Receptor is a solid rack mount for live use - I have only used it live a couple of times - mostly I use it connect to my PC at home - it works great and sounds great - but I wish the updates and new plug ins came out faster - we seem to always be a year or two behind current versions.
and don't look for for much Muse support on this forum. Other Receptor users will help out - but there isn't much presence from Muse here.
Oh and it helps if you are VERY technical to get the receptor to load VST's - could be just me but I find the addition of new software confusing and difficult.

Hi there,
Got mine about 6 months ago. There's nothing like it, IF, you're into pluggins.
It is very usefull for live gigs, assigning pluggins to specific region on the keyboard, and to save pluggin configuration and midi assignment.
I have a Korg Triton Extreme and it has been gathering dust since I got it...
It will run about 95% of the free pluggins out there.
It won't run any of Arturia's.
It won't run "pirated" pluggins (not that I care, I buy the one I like).
Some VST may come out with a new PC version; you won't know when the matching Receptor version will be out, you won't know if it will ever be out, actually.
So like someone said, buy it for what it does now, not for what you expect it to do in the future.
Muse support through Plugorama is quick and those guys will go the extra mile to help you out.
All in all I don't regret buying it, because for live gigs, there's nothing like it.
Be sure to watch the videos and learn about snapshot banks and zload, they're a must for live setups.
Regards,

Thank you all for your help.
I'm mainly concerned about glitches and crashes, since i play in the musical theaters and so a mistake is not a option. I mainly have used hardware synths because of this stability issue. But i've realized that i have to step up in terms of sound quality.
I mostly want to run Ivory Italian Grand, East West Symphonic, Pianoteq (for the rhodes and tines), and Omnisphere without any hassles. I'm up to use the plugins in a economic way, i'm just trying to see if i'm got get any problems due to OS or hardware glitches.
I've used this Roland Fantom XR and my Kurzweil PC2rO most of my professional live and i just didn't had to worry about stability.

You won't have any stability problems, glitches or crashes. It's not 100% fail safe, nothing is, but it's safe enough.
Obviously, make sure to practice your setup several times before a gig.
As far as sound quality goes, and opinions may vary on this, I don't think vst can match Kurzweil sound. I sold my K2600 a year ago, couldn't make the time to learn the VAST engine, but I can tell it's not as good. Specifically pianos.
On a side note, make sure to test Ivory before buying it. I read countless good reviews on it, so I bought it blindly. I got extremely disapointed when I tried it with my band. On a good sound system it's ok. But on a standard PA system, it sounds like shit. lol.
And the licence cannot be transferred to someone else, I'm stuck with it.
Sample based sounds are not my cup of tea. Had to waist around a grand on a few sample based plugs to learn this. Will try Pianoteq next.
For electric pianos, Lounge Lizard is incredible.
It took me five minutes to setup something that I couldn't figure out after 20 hrs of effort, on my laptop.
Buy with confidence, you will love what it can do for you for a live gig setup.

I can understand your point of view. I play live a lot and Kurzweil does stand a lot better in the mix better then any another brand; i think it has to do also with the balanced outputs and excellent programing. That's why I look more and more to my Fantom XR and say "Yeah, it has 4000 sounds in it, but i really just love about 30 of them...". So i'm planning to sell the expanded Fantom to get a new Muse Receptor 2 to partner with the Kurz, wich i think is going to be terrific combo.
In a side note, have you been lucky finding a good piano? I'm really interested in having a good piano library/plugin.
