Upgrade old sessions

Hi,
I have several really, really old sessions made with Luna, Mulab 1.X and a few important (for me) session made with Mulab 2.0X (not sure which version).
The internal "Session upgrader" of 2.7 does not work with these files.
Is there a chance to rescue the files??
I tried to get a old Mulab version from the link in this old thread, but it looks like that the link is broken:

The answer is on this new doc page:
http://www.mutools.com/mulab/docs/upgra ... sions.html
This doc page is written with MU.LAB 3 in mind, but it's fully relevant for MU.LAB 2.7 as well.
Hope this answers your question, else let me know.

I just installed 3.043 and tried to upgrade my sessions made in 2.64 by installing 2.7. It doesn't know about my VST plugins though. Can I just copy my existing VstPlguns.xml over to 2.7 or do I have to add each plugin individually in the Plugin Manager? And is the process the same for 3.043 as well?
Is there a MULAB For Dummies book? I could really do with one

You can indeed copy the VstPlugins.Xml file
Yes, this applies to all MU.LAB versions up to now.
Best do so when MU.LAB is not running.

I've upgraded all my old sessions now, but one thing I couldn't understand initially was why it lists musessions only to tell you no folder was selected and throw you out of the browser when you click on the musession you want to upgrade!
Ideally a user could choose to upgrade a single session or all sessions in a folder, but if upgrading a single session isn't possible it's a bit confusing to see the files listed.

Got it - thanks. FYI I updated my sessions to 2.7 but got many "MULAB has encountered a serious error" crashes along the way, and only got them done 2-3 at a time rather than all at once. (I've only got 12 sessions and they're all very little experiments.)mutools wrote:You can indeed copy the VstPlugins.Xml file

Then when I loaded them into M3 I ran into the 8-plugin limit. So now I'm weighing up whether to stay with 2.7 (unlimited plugins but only 6 tracks) or buy M3 UT. M3 Free/XT seem too limited in terms of plugins, but maybe I'm going through a noob stage of installing too many
As a noob to DAWs and digital music making, I don't quite see what M3 offers over 2.7, which I know is down to my ignorance (eg I couldn't find any info on the site on subtracks and so remain clueless about what they are).
For the casual/learning user experimenting with things on the way to trying to build a couple of full tracks, is there a standout benefit to M3, given that the plugin limit means they might have to go straight to M3 UT?
I should probably just stop typing and get on with learning and experimenting

Finetuned in the next version, i.e. when doing "Upgrade Sessions" the browser only shows folders. When you want to upgrade a single MuSession file, simply open and save it. (always best to make a backup first for MuSessions are not downwards compatible)robenestobenz wrote:I've upgraded all my old sessions now, but one thing I couldn't understand initially was why it lists musessions only to tell you no folder was selected and throw you out of the browser when you click on the musession you want to upgrade!

About a month ago, there was a topic, posted by Eggu -
"what is the typical use of sub-tracks ?"

Although not a 'tutorial', hopefully it can provide you with a bit of background information.

Very civilised - the cuppa is an essential part of the mix (!).nicenoise wrote:.... sit down and read with a cuppa I think
Yes, the topic is made a bit more complex because it sidetracks into other issues - but probably still worth wading through.
You may have also seen the new post from liquidsound:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... ts#4106744
It's an example of a novel use of subtracks - in this instance, for adding comments rather than events, etc - and if you download the example file (Targets.MuSession), you can see it in action.
Clicking the icon at the left of the "Comments" tracks will hide/show the subtracks.
