Midi Merge

I would like to control my Receptor from two different keyboards, hopefully at the same time. I believe I've read that this is possible, but I don't know how it's done.

Should I buy a MIDI merger, 2 in/1 out for this purpose? Is this all I need to do, and then I can control one Receptor from two different MIDI keyboards? Or is there more to it? Any settings I would need to make inside the Receptor for it to work?

You are correct. You can use a MIDI merge box. Or, if your keyboards support it, you can daisy-chain them with the MIDI OUT of one going into the MIDI IN of the other, then the combined output will go to the Receptor.

Hi Mychal,

You can also use 1 USB (class compliant) keyboard, and one MIDI keyboard, both directly connected to a receptor. If they are both transmitting on the same MIDI channel, you could end up with hung notes - but otherwise, this works fine.

Thanks very much for the replies! I appreciate the help. I think I'll go the midi merge route, and buy the MIDI Solutions Merger 2. It looks like a simple solution.

And thanks for the tip about being on the same channel, with the possibility of hung notes. I'll keep the two keyboards on separate channels.

if your going that route then check all their products. ?ou might find something that merges as well as does some other things you might consider useful
