Since there are Two ways to target something, by Track or by Part, wouldn't it make more sense to have a switch for this distinctive action?
I call it distinctive because all other target actions are depending upon one of these two states.
Since the Target by Track is the default, a Toggle would be welcomed to avoid getting in the second level of the context menu every time we decide to have a Part target choice.

In fact it make sense to have it (in addition to some other place of convenience) in the Part property panel so that it's accessible from the key editor as well as the composer.

And if the Toggle could then open the relative Context target menu upon clicking it, then with one action we avoid "FIVE" mouse clicks! 8) :D

That improves the workflow substantially.

It might just be easier to have the current "Part Target" panel allow the track target to be changed when the Track target is not "Per Part" - i.e. clicking it gives the same "Choose Target Module" menu as from the Track context menu. Of course, it would then need to display whether it was the Track target or Part target you were seeing/editing. I'm not sure about having that as an "active" switch, though.

(At the moment, it just complains when set to Track Target, which isn't friendly.)

I'm sorry but it sounds a bit too abstract to me, don't understand what you're aiming to.

Anyway, it's about one of the important M4 topics. I'll join the topic when the M4 cycle starts.

OK, even though mine may sound abstract, I too got a little lost with the one from Pljones, in essence here is the issue:

Why do we need to go back twice to the same menu in order to choose a target when we switch from Track to Part or viceversa?

It's no MU.LAB style!
It could be done at once.

The issue is one but the solutions many...

(I missed pljones post, just read it now)

I agree with your critical observations.

I'm really tempted to start brainstorming about this, but i do push it forward to the M4 cycle. (Wish i was multicore myself so i could do more at the same time)
