HOT TIP - Discovered a remarkable new iPad trick for using Omnisphere/Trilian/Stylus RMX with it!

Check out the video: http://bit.ly/bgSVLr

Of course this trick is applicable to any software and instruments too!

:-)

Post

Wow that is neat - can it be used on iPhone too? (probably too small for larger interfaces but for some maybe it would be OK?)

Post

fantastic, the mind boggles with options.

Thanks for showing this eric.

Amused, only for iPad and currently only for osx 10.6.3

Post

i want it for iphone/windows, hope they make one
even for simple duties or zooming and triggering/playing stuff onstage away from the computer.

Post

fuuuuuuuuu ... sold. downloaded it, using with ADM and ACE, works like a charm, bit sluggish but that's to be expected (and was mentioned in the video).

this will definitely feature in my lazy saturday music making sessions, brilliant!

Post

this seems really cool....bit slow, but still will have it's uses

does anyone know if the ipad can be used with implements such as wacom pens ?? or is it just fingers....i'm thinking some pointed implement would make for more accurate use of the small interface real estate

time for scaleable/zoomable instrument interfaces, eric :D

any software?
With Air Display, you can use your iPad as a wireless display for your Mac OS X computer
(source: avatron)

no, not any software yet ;)

One day such an app will arise for PC as well I guess, hopefully a much swifter version.

Oh, wait, somewhere else they mention "Windows users, stay tuned! Windows support software will be available soon." :)
The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.

yeah, there are some pen-like implements for iphone & ipad, they do indeed make using sketchpad and some badly designed software (read: too small an UI) much easier and more accurate. would definitely work with AD too.

i'm not a big fan of using styluses with the i-products myself, mostly because I'm so good at losing them but also because iPad and iPhone are multi-touch - most of my favourite programs use these features and switching between a stylus and fingers just f**ks the workflow for me. Air Display made me want one, though.

thanks for the answer

regarding the use as eric shows, multitouch won't be too much of a concern...why do you have to drop the pen for multi-movements, though ?? just add an extra finger while holding the pen, non??

Post

that is a bit boss, i'd be sat in making presets not stop lol. :D

With Air Display multitouch is not a concern, or even possible and a stylus would definitely be useful. Most plugins work even with my massive sausage fingers, though, and drawing patch cables in ACE is just wonderful.

With other software it's just a matter of personal choice, if the software features a lot of panning, zooming and 3-finger gestures, I work faster using only my fingers. Your mileage may vary, and in any case the styli are so cheap there's really no reason not to buy one. Or two.

iPhone does not work with a pen/stylus except for those squishy rubberised ones made to simulate fingers that are useless anyway. Not sure if this is also true of the iPad.

It's just as true on the ipad.
However. Just how true that really is depends on how you use your iphone/pad, as an example a lot of graphics guys I know wouldn't agree with you a bit, for them having that rubberized stylus is a must when sketching.

Anyhow, that's off-topic enough for me, carry on :)

I mainly got it for sketching but it was far too draggy and imprecise - worse than a finger and no comparison with a Wacom for serious graphics

Eric, you've just convinced me to buy an ipad. What a gem this would be for just sitting atop your keyboard as you did and moving wires around or changing modulations, or just being able to move around the room while doing sound design. Crazy.

Now comes the next Omnisphere feature request: An omnisphere gui which expands to the full resolution of the ipad screen! Am I right? :D
