Probably not the best example -
This is when 24 frets settable zones/layers to separate channels makes all the difference.
(all models but the babyz) It's a heck of a lot easier to work out voicings and positions. (why z7's and z5's make sense)
Also while I can "finger pick/tap" on the key triggers it's nothing like actual finger or pectrum picking. It's hard to get a fast strum or tremelo type picking going on a babyz.
I haven't tested the Z5 personally but I will tell you that if they are rubber strings like the baby it's going to take more time to adjust to then if they were buttons. Usually one is over forcing the attack on the "strings" because there is no physical feedback from the strings themselves. (you don't feel resistance you just feel the hard rubber.

The Z5 does appear to be just the rubber, not the buttons of the other models.tapper mike wrote:Probably not the best example -

I suspect [and hope] Kevin and his friends have done a much deeper and more thorough market analysis than yours. Let's face it: Teens and tweens have billions of dollars to spend, if not hundreds of billions. Just look at the number of Ipods and Iphones now in teen/tween hands.

But there's a perfectly logical explanation for this: No toy chain or dept. store could possibly sell a toy plastic MIC Rock Band controller going for the price of an entire Wii system including Sports Resort and the new hi-res controller.
EA sells RB-2 guitar controllers that look way more like real Fenders for $39.99. Not to mention the whole RB craze has peaked and sales are down everywhere. Folks who wanted them already bought them.
And as much as we see the potentially awesome midi-controller utility for us, their business model absolutely depends on massive sales into the toy retail chains. Which by any application of logic is a hopeless case.
That's where the scenario breaks down, and I suspect this latest delay masks a desperate scramble for some bridge funding to allow for launch and cover their massive losses. Their business plan had to project (and rely on) reasonable minimum orders from toy retailers. With that up in smoke, one wonders what Plan B is.
But imagine if they ripped out all the silly internal tones and beats, all the Rock Band wireless controller hogwash and just made it a stripped-down awesome midi guitar controller for $149. With wireless for $199.
Then they get some name guys who actually use midi guitars (Pat Metheny, etc) to endorse them and do demos. It's a business.
But it's too late for any logical thinking like that. As an ex-employee of Hasbro, I can tell you you get one shot at it in the toy biz. It's either a home run, or 3 strikes yer outa there. Maybe the ultimate thrill here will be us buying these up from Big Lots and Building 19 in a couple of months for $29! Buy em in boxes of 10 apiece--when one breaks, grab the next one.
If my experience with "customer support" was any indication, the only YRG support will be to have backups on hand....lots of em.

I would think they would; however with all the production delays it could also be that when the project was initiated the market for game controllers was a lot hotter than it is now, a year later. Things change quickly in gaming. I find it amazing that they're having this much trouble with this type of device. It's not like they invented something new here, they just put it into a different form factor.JAMES L. i sincerely hope this venture comes off and folk get their orders.
i can't begin to imagine the headaches involved in launching something like this.
anyway i've been scouring the trade sites here in Asia to see if anything 'slips out the back door'. i assume the units are not being manufactured in the U.S.
nothing yet, but here's something for the drummers:

Most likely that's it, it's done. The venture can't survive something like this if it' not something fixed with a software update that can be dine by the user after he gets it.

What did I tell you LOL.
And no it's not really understandable
they should send these out to the pre-orders instructing them to download a patch.
And then do whatever with the retail ones.
If they can do an update, so could we. It doesn't make much sense what they are saying.
Why don't you ask kevin for an ETA about this, since he seems to respond to your inquiries.

It's not an impossible thing to adapt to. It just is an adaption process. I'm happy with my babyZ, the rubber is velocity/pressure sensitive in output response sensitive and it takes very little force to activate the tone.

Wow, what a surprise. Another delay, this time due to a "glitch". RIIIGGHHTTT. If it was really that and could be fixed via software update, then they'd do the right thing and contact the pre-order people, and send the device to those willing to do the update.
I suspect it's more than that. I've gotten a lot of devices; wifi cards (before they were preinstalled), sound cards, software, etc that comes in the box saying "ATTENTION!! Please visit xyz.com to download the latest version to fix a flaw".
It's not a big deal.
That's why I don't think it's a minor bug, and I don't think we'll be seeing this thing for awhile, if at all.
Maruuk, if you're still reading this: what issues in regards to MIDI did you have with your Yammy EZ? Was it something that could be fixed via an app that filters out low velocity ghost notes in a DAW?
If so, I may get one of those for $100 or so off of eBay in the meantime. I really want to try the YRG, but it's looking more and more like vaporware, outside of a couple prototypes.

Who knows.
If they go bust maybe there's some defective product that we can get cheap, minus any support, if we want to go there.
