saving your work

we have a guy here running a muse receptor.
i have not been programming it, just turning it an and off every day.
for a week it's been fine, it comes back how it was before i turned it off.
this morning i turned it on and everything was blank, nothing there as it should be.
are there any good reasons for this happening?
what should i be doing to ensure that everything is properly saved and properly shut down at the end of a day?
what should i be doing to ensure that i turn on in the morning and everything comes back to how it was?
what are the backup options to save data onto an external device?
what are the processes for restoring if i need to use the backups?
thanks, james.

You could be facing the well-known checkdisk function that kicks in automatically. And if your Receptor hard drive is pretty full, this could take ages.
So just boot the machine, and when nothing seems to be happening, just let it do its thing. Bear in mind it can take hours (yes, hours!).
The above is the most likely problem.
The other possibility is the bios and its function HALT ON not being set correctly, and stopping the boot when the system reports a problem. For that one, you need to contact Muse to get the explanation on how to access the bios and check the settings are right.

just that work done (choice of sounds, levels, etc.) is not there.

maybe because you look after your machine properly?!Kermit Jagger wrote:OK, I had not understood your question correctly.

if you just walked up to someone else's machine, what would you do in order to save and shut down and make sure that no work is lost?

Just simple questions to understand the problem better:
- did the guy save his multis or patches in the Receptor before switching off?
- if yes, did he try to load them again?

Jimdrake,
You are correct in thinking that it should recall the previous work every time. This works using a special auto-save patch. The auto save patch takes note of what the setting sare on your receptor about every 25-30 seconds and saves it as a patch on the receptor called auto save. Next time you boot up Receptor it automatically goes to load this patch called autosave. Sometime the autosave patch can become corrupt or, if you've been making quick edits or had a crash, will just not have enough time to save the patch before shutdown again. In these cases it defaults to loading a blank patch.
Here is what I recommend you do:
1) This reset will re-load your banks and patches lists, as well are flush out the contents of Receptor's ram, and re-load receptor with a blank patch. It is good to resolve issues with banks and patches on your Receptor, or general quirks you don't normally see in the operating system. Do this reset by pressing and holding the multi button on your receptor and pressing power three times fast. Continue to hold multi until the front panel screen says Mu Patch Loading.
2) I recommend that you start saving the work you do regularly as a 'multi' patch. If you'd like to back this up (for even further security) you can connect Receptor to a computer and go to Receptor's hard drive. On the hard drive find 'Banks and patches' then 'Multis' and just drage your multi file onto your home computer's desktop to back it up.
