if u use the included samples in dr fusion then that defies the whole point of the challenge....from what i read dr fusion has 560 ready samples to use...and only 2 synth modules for the kick and the tom. if u use the synth modules ok...but the ready to use samples defenetly not.
a wavetable synth like sq8l uses basic waveforms as starting point fo sculpting sound...it's a synth.
wavetable synths fine...but no romplers and sample players should be allowed imo.
anyway was expecting by logic an "any one synth challenge "(and any should mean freeware or commercial synth) before an "an any two synth challenge"...but ok i'm in on this.
gonna use oatmeal and elek7ro i think...

Well, let's have the final decision from tattiemannie on the Dr. Fusion.
At least how I see it; Dr. Fusion only uses the build-in samples as the basis of it's sound, On top of that each sound gets shaped completely with the synth controls that are available. So to me it hardly is a rompler and/or sample player.
By that same measure we could discuss if the H.G. Fortune free synths could be used, as they are based on a build-in sample-set as well. However, it could be argued that those synths are merely a step-up from the SQ8L
Well, as I said it's no big deal for me. More then enough choices.
So, tattiemannie, what's it gona be

Didn't anyone read that 'relaxed as hell' bit?

I think the generosity is Urs', not mine - he's the one who offered the prize for the ZPC and agreed to my transfering it over here.V'ger wrote:That's very generous Hakey.
And the Zebra Patch Contest deserve a quick plug: like the title says it's a patch design contest for Zebra - the prize is a free choice of U-He software!
And, because the Zebra demo allows saving of patches, you don't need a full copy of Zebra to enter. This months ZPC is an 'emulation' theme - just emulate any recognizable sound or instrument. I reckon it's worth a look.

Interesting stuff hakey, and cheers for clarifying where the credit has to go for that prize donation
Now maybe it's my turn to clarify.
In the rules, the part about sampling refers to the usual OSC situation ie. sampling the OUTPUT of the synth to reintroduce sounds via a sampler.
If a synth in this comp is sample based, and the samples are integral to synth package, then that's no prob .. in fact it seems to me, not to use the integral samples is like using half a synth.
I would draw the line however on any use of samples external to the synth package, as this is essentially using a sampler dressed as a synth!
What would I do about it though is another matter ... I'll leave that to the voters.
This comp is an 'extra' to the regular OSCs, and the intention is to open up opportunities not available in the regular OSCs, not to close them down ... so really, I'm not particularly fussed about the issue of using synths which incorporate sampled sources.
I hope that does as little as poss to clear things up

That's exactly how I understood it; ProteusVX and the likes are out, but stuff like the H.G.Fortune synths that use soundfonts as some sort of wavetable can be big funtattiemannie wrote:I would draw the line however on any use of samples external to the synth package, as this is essentially using a sampler dressed as a synth!

And if anyone is confused how the name NA2SC could mean Any Two Synth Challenge, just say it fast with a thick scottish accent and it all becomes clear..

just a very important question for me :
can i use, for example, 10 (synth1 vst) and 14 (stringz2 vst) in fl studio for produce my track = 24 synth
or
just, for this example, one synth1 and one stringz2 is allowed = 2 synth

It's like the One synth comp ... except you can use 2 synths of your choice.
So you can use as many instances of either of your chosen synths as you wish ... or your DAW can handle
Thanks for posting here and keeping this comp alive ... I was thinking I might have to pull this comp, but if there are enough folks interested in submitting tracks over the two weeks we have remaining, and I see a surge of interest, I might even extend the deadline .... as harry hill would say, "Pull? Extend? Hmmm I dont know, only one way to settle this .... FIGHT!
... but no, we dont have to fight, but if we can argue a lot, then that might keep the thread active, and get a few entries coming in
So ... Pull? Promote? Extend? ... Discuss

I'm still planning to do a track for this comp
I have a week vacation coming up, but a 'relaxed' deadline would be appreciated
EDIT: I did decide on the two synths though.
