Can always connect the YRG to this app for expanding control

HMT1

To celebrate our entry into the world of plugins, we're releasing a free one! HMT1 is a VST plugin for MIDI guitarists who use software instruments. Instead of sending your MIDI straight to a soft synth, route it through HMT1 for extra control.

With HMT1 you can:

* turn individual strings on and off
* route any string to any MIDI channel
* turn the MIDI on and off using a foot pedal
* block pitchbend messages

With Multiple HMT1's and software instruments:

* Quickly set up different instruments on different strings
* Switch between instruments using a MIDI pedalboard using the pedal control section
* Audition instruments that don't react to midi guitar pitchbend properly by blocking pitchbend

And there are lots of flashing lights so you can see what's happening to your MIDI.

Oh now that's just sick. In a good way!!

Adrian Belew and Co. would approve. I love that album, btw.

I have to wait until wednesday for mine, but I should have a midi test demo up with camera/Screenflow soon after via Ableton. I'll probably use Kontakt and Massive.

Looking forward to putting it through the paces.

For songwriters, being able to play keyboards is huge. It totally changes how you hear chords and tonalities and opens up a whole new perspective on your writing. Even given that "guitar" performance is very different than "keyboard" keys. I find 4-finger (with thumb) block picking works really well to emulate piano chording. Then a little arpeggiation thrown in seals the deal. When guitar players realize that for the first time their performances can be quantized (auto-corrected) with the push of a button, their minds will be blown.
Yeah the flexibility this will provide will be amazing. with a $200 device and a laptop, you can create entire arrangements and burn to disk, or upload to the web, all from the comfort of the familiar guitar format.

Elantric, what's the overall length of the YRG? I'm thinking I'd rather find a gig bag of some sort that allows for the neck to stay attached, rather than constantly connecting/disconnecting it. Seems like a recipe for failure awhile down the road.

Well, at $200 I suppose I don't care too much. :D

Elantric wrote:big wish list - Maybe Inspired Instruments can make an upgraded optional plugin Neck with a
Fretboard that provides Polyphonic MIDI Aftertouch" - this could address individual string bending, or vibrato on a string per string basis when used as a MIDi controller.
would be a great idea, to have optional necks, one for every style and needs
about vibrato, i Think you Can use the
"joystick" on the guitar for aftertouch
and at fish interview you Can see how that works.
At unboxing video it looks like there is
velocity interval when using whammybar
which Can be used for bending, have you Tried that??

Post

Bending/vibrato use the whammy bar joystick the joystick is set to mod. Learn how to rethink your bends and you'll be able to achieve them with the whammy bar.

If you constantly THINK as you would play on a guitar. You'll be losing out. Think midi controller. Take some time to rethink the instrument look at alternative methods to achieve the same end. It may be a starting ground to rethink your approach to music rather then beating the same old licks into the ground.

Post

Today - I don't think of the YRG as a Guitar - I think of it as my doorway to full music composition. The "Tap" mode is superb, allows complete two handed Michael Hedges style playing, and with all the alternate tunings and 8 velocity curves coming soon, this is going to be a monster MIDI controller feeding Gtak controlling Ni Komplete with Kontact

Bad news for all of us in the UK. Just had an email back from the distributers and they now reckon end of July/start of August.    :x :x :x :x

Bummer!

More info -
All "strings" are same gauge - these are used strictly as velocity triggers - just like the old Synthaxe

http://www.hollis.co.uk/john/synthaxe.html

They are not guitar strings , but more like "Piano Wire" and are mounted with rubber dampers at each end, the transducers that read the string velocity are located under that large Black cover at the "Neck PU" location.

what about other distributers in europe ?

Post

No idea about the rest of Europe, i guess they may be in the same boat. I'd suggest contacting your local distributer to find out. There is a list of worldwide distributers on the YRG site with all the relevant telephone numbers, email addresses etc.

So much for the pre-order list. I wish Kevin told me from the start that this was for US only instead of giving me many a false promise over the last year.
