You should take at least two days before posting a video. While you have the two days work on adjusting the string tension and the velocity settings.

I did adjust the string tension, as it was like picking a rock before.tapper mike wrote:You should take at least two days before posting a video. While you have the two days work on adjusting the string tension and the velocity settings.
Actually, if you know how to access the full range velocity, I'd like to know how. Medium velocity is okay, but I pick sometimes fairly softly.
I'm not at all disappointed with it. In fact, Its a lot of fun. It does have this strange Note Off behavior though. If you have multiple notes ringing out and you take your finger off one of them, it sometimes sends a note off message and kills all the other notes as well. Also if you hit an open string, the opposite might happen, and you'll have to hit another note to get the open note to stop playing.not perfect sounds like , you are a bit disapointed ?,
whats your youtube name, i want to see your video
I'll post a link when I get the video uploaded. (probably be tomorrow at this point as I'm drowning in work).

In this present revision of the YRG firmware, Steve Leonard informed me the MIDI velocity scaling is fixed at the "Medium" range = 49-120Actually, if you know how to access the full range velocity, I'd like to know how. Medium velocity is okay, but I pick sometimes fairly softly.
Steve Leonard also said that a YRG Configuration Application (PC/Mac) will arrive soon which will allow 8 unique velocity curves, to satisfy various playing needs and techniques.
In the near future - the user will be able to assign one of the 8 unique velocity curve ranges independently. A separate velocity curve for the internal Synth sounds , separate velocity curve for the internal "Guitar" sounds, and a separate velocity curve for the MIDI output.
However at the present time - the MIDI Velocity curve is fixed to one range (49-120)

Reads like you are playing "Open"
It's hard from a digital system to guestimate how long an open note should vibrate it's not like it would automatically decay. It's a strategic consept that if you were playing open chords that as soon as the left hand released something that would be a good time to cancel out any open notes.
Try "Slide" it should give you back your held notes.
Re Velociy, can't help there.

Anybody know what to make of this?

"You Rock Guitar Digital Guitar and Game Controller" "Only $151.48"
???
Any chance I already lost $50 on my purchase by buying direct?

It is my understanding Inspired Instruments never wanted to be a direct company. Managing distribution to resellers is a lot less hassle then one on one for a manufactuer. I bet if you buy 500 of them from III you can get a deep discount as well. I'm in the software biz we do this too. We sell to individuals at a base price and we sell to authorized redistributers at a lower price when they buy in volume. A high volume reseller/distributer can by virtue of moving alot of different products move alot of your products.
Direct sales were more intended for gaining early buyers as they could act as experts/agents/testers.

I was going to order a second one from Provantage (first link below) for $152, but after reading YRG Reviews at Facebook and other sites I figure Ill wait 2 months and pick up a used one on Ebay cheap, probably from someone who cant read, and assumed you could perform string bending and harmonics with a switch membrane fretboard.

Yeah, I was thinking of buying a second one for office/travel, but you're right; buying a slightly used one from a dolt on eBay is a great idea. Saving money is always good!

Just for the record, I feel the triggering system is sub- adequate.
I own a Roland GI-20 system and was just hoping the YRG would be more accurate more often, but it's again a very touchy picking/triggering system.
Elantric spoke of it as very adequate with VSTi, and someone else spoke of it as just adequate, so I felt i'd throw in my opinion.
I may find it can be improved. I've only spent an hr or so playing a few different VSTi to test it. I did tighten each string tension.
Common pick to string dynamics will frequently not trigger a note because it's below the trigger sensitivity threshold of the system.
I'm not complaining, just writing my assessment of where it seems to fall short as a VSTi controller.
If your a clever tech, now's your chance to devise a better string trigger system. I'll be on it. :& )

Could it be an asio thing and not related to the instrument?
Looks like I get to find out today.

It's not about the audio driver or any sounding latency. I have my ASIO driver set to 512 samples, which is fast enough without a noticeable lag.tapper mike wrote:Could it be an asio thing and not related to the instrument?

I opened VSTi in my "Chainer" host application.
I also added the "MidiMonitor" vst tool so I could watch the midi data as it was transmitted.
I'm not getting false reads, which is very good...but like other pitch to midi triggering systems like the roland guitar pickup w/ the GI-20, the string needs to be picked precisely to get a proper note trigger when picked lightly. (picking with a pick)
This string triggering system device is very non-linear in it's velocity control. I'm in medium mode (49-127 I think) Translating your picking into subtle velocity variations is difficult so far. It's just not like the feel of picking real strings.
Picking lightly or moderately will frequently not trigger notes it seems so far.
I'm still not exactly sure about all the details of what appears to be happening...so i'll need some more time with it.

I noticed that you said that you tightened the strings. I read that loosening them will increase sensitivity, tightening will reduce it.
I haven't gotten around to loosening mine as i'm busy, but as it stands, I really have too strum hard to trigger, which is ok, as then I just use this device for that purpose.
I didn't expect much, and I am neither delighted or let down.

The triggering system is analog, and has it's own inherent sensitivity curve do to it's design. If it were so sensitive that very light picking triggered notes, it would also increase the assurance of mis-reads and sensor-noise triggers as you pick.
Since i'm not getting mis-reads, that tells me there is room for this system to be more sensitive to lighter picking. It's very close to that point now.
It's a matter of the system being able to differentiate between noise and intended triggers.
