One thing becomes apparent. I'm going to have to grow back my nails or buy some if I intend to fingerpick.

How's this guitar generating midi? I can't tell.
No need to guess, I can do that myself. :& /

I'm willing to bet the string trigger system on this fender mustang toy is the same as on the YRG.

Fingerpicks work very well on this.

hagstrom solution.

The frets are wired
notice the vibrato is coming of the synth not the guitar

looks like we'll have rockband 3 to thx for some interesting and affordable guitar midi controllers, bout time !

the squire guitar hos an midiout, powered from an midi pro apdapter made by harmonix/madcatz. poly... something i am no expert, cant remember the name.

When I have something which tactically feels close to guitar strings, and inherently provides adequate discrimination between a string that is touched, rubbed, scraped, tapped and a real guitar pick stroke, and all this while the guitar string sensitivity is high.
I'll share the design in the forum.

I'll just need to know a little more about the original sensing method before I can start planning a better one.

So don't get discouraged, your YRG will be getting better and better.
sounds great!!, i really apreciate this, would be great if you shared the best settings :)

Thanks Mike.
I can see and understand how this guitar is re-circuited.
In this case, he can only play a single mono-midi channel. (no chords)
All that would be needed to make it poly-phonic would be to divide each fret into 6 separate electrical contacts. This would isolate each each string circuit from any other string circuit when playing a chord.
I always suspected this sort of setup would be possible as a midi-controller but until now never saw it done. (not that I was looking for it)

This setup is superior to pitch to midi since there is not conversion taking place!
The velocity can be easily handled by a magnetic pickup of the likes of the Roland midi pickup. (6 isolated poles)
This method as a whole seems superior to all midi guitar methods because your playing a real pro guitar and there's no need for pitch to midi conversion!

Really cool!
I'm willing to bet someone has made these divided frets and is selling them on the internet. 1st one to find them gets a new midi guitar! :-o

The internal circuitry from say that Fender Mustang midi guitar toy, a Roland pickup or a a piezo sadle pickup, and possibly a simple interfacing circuit between the Roland/piezoelectric PU and the input to the Mustangs velocity sensing circuit would be all you would need to create this midi guitar system! (assuming you already have a guitar to hack up.)

Thanks.
I looked at that pro-adapter pix. It's a midi to game converter. That would mean the Squire is actually outputting midi data. I'm not seeing a multi-pole PU on that guitar where I would expect one to be. (as needed for a pitch to midi system)
This is what has me wondering if this neck actually has electrically divided frets!

you think it has, or dont think so, i really am hoping to use the yourockguitar for the pro game mode in Rockband 3 watch this link

and let me know what you think from 20:24 to 27:00
both guitar are demostrated at E3, but i am very curious about the posiblities
to play with the yourockguitar, but i am not sure i can.
but let me hear what you and you others think.

Any midi controller/instrument can be plugged into this "Pro-Adapter" in order to be used as a game controller. This includes the YRG since it has a 5 pin midi output connector.
Did I hear him say there is a Fender bass guitar controller?

i think he meant , that the guitar, also could be used for bass controller
if any midi controller instrument, can be plugged into that pro adapter
how come, i am wondering why they only say keyboard and drums :?:
but damn i hope you are right!!!!

Post

Yes, i'm sure about it. The Pro-Adapter just converts any midi controller data into data the game device understands.

I saw a guy on that stage playing a bass also...what was he doing there..i'm not a gamer.

That fret-X web site doesn't say anything about the product cost, where to buy it or anything really about the product. That's what I thought was odd.
