Maruuk wrote:The Fender Squire Rock Band-compatible has no midi, the Mad Katz Mustang button job does...right?

I guess a really well-implemented midi button job could work. It just feels so creepy!
the fender squire is a official licens Rockband instrument, controller
and was powered by the midi pro, so i guess it has midi.

Not actually lowering, increasing the velocity sensitivity. And Yes it puts 13pin systems in the dust.

Hey, thanks for the detailed response as to why you didn't like it, and why you're returning. It's a real service to folks looking to buy one.

and i agree with polaris20, you should had gave SOME response of what you thought of it, and why its oh soo wrong.

Never seen anything suggesting the Squire Strat has midi...what's "powered by the midi pro" mean??? Official Fender release...

Nothing in there about midi whatsoever. If they had it, they'd certainly mention it. It is a bit odd how close they come, mentioning all the precise fret and string "tracking data", but no midi. Seems a waste.

Post

Well, from all we've heard, it seems that the YRG is funky and toylike out of the box, but most of the tech issues can be addressed by a good app that equalizes and corrects for the inequalities and allows a proper velocity spread and curve. Hopefully it won't take months and months for this app to come out.

From what I know, since they can build off of/reverse engineer a zillion midipipe-style apps, this is a super trivial build.

Post

Hmm, I might as well just keep it. 15% restocking, return shipping, it IS a new toy.

As for a real review, give me a couple days, today it wasn't too interesting. Played for a good part of an hour, neck has no "buttons" you're just literally playing a neck.

But yes, I need to read your guys stuff on string sensitivity, it was missing some notes.

1. I hate the fact you have to close your vsti to run the control panel.exe
It's like shooting blind.
2. Apparently the guitar out does not work when you use the usb to power it.

If I were you i'd hold off a bit on the YRG until it is known for sure whether the Fender Squire Strat outputs midi or not, and what the selling cost will be.

You can get the dirt on the sensitivity adjustment thing in detail here;

Search/find ' annode ' for my user instruction.

The YRG does have a virtual capo feature.

It's got a midi port on it, and I read an interview with a Fender rep who was specifically asked that question, and he said yes, the squire has midi. I can't remember what site the interview was on and I didn't bookmark it, so take that with a grain of salt, could be he had his info wrong, who knows.

Time will tell how much midi implementation is built in, but it has the midi port for sure, it's in the pictures. I agree, it's odd that there is no mention in the press release. Could be they are still working the bugs out before announcing full features. We'll see..

Post

If the Squire Strat output midi, I guarantee you an official Fender press release wouldn't have casually missed it.

Okay, I tried out the Control Panel app for Mac...It works and it improves playability quite a bit. The strings are much more sensitive to light playing and the dynamic range is wider.
