I've been following the sequence of events. IMHO it was Annode who discovered the control panel app after surfing the YouRockGuitar site, based upon URLs that I posted for the YRG Updater app that I discovered after reading the official Inspired Instruments You Rock Guitar FAQ link at the YRG support page.

It's true that the Squire Strat has what appears to be a midi jack, but that doesn't mean it's outputting midi. They are apparently using that 5-pin jack to output proprietary data useful only to Rock Band.
And the $150 Midi Pro box is just to convert midi to Rock Band formula so you can play pretend musician.

Ah...so the Control Panel was never publicly posted. I see.Elantric wrote:I've been following the sequence of events. Thanks Elantric, that explains away all of tapper mike's speculations.

Not deduction and experience. I've been in the software biz for 10 years now and prior to that I had a very lengthy career in production management.
The links you provided came from inspired's website.
How did they get on inspired's website?
Someone uploaded them.
Who has access to upload into a public directory of Inspired instruments?
Employees
Why would they even bother building an app for adjusting the sensitivity?
Internal development, User demand.
If it came from Inspired and is designed for the YRG then....It must have been designed by someone who works for the company. If it has the alpha stamp it is an alpha. Alphas are much more prone to failure then beta's Remember how the mac version didn't work for someone It's an alpha. And Yes 10 years operating as a technical writer/programmer for over 140 products products does make me an expert on how software companies operate and the inherant differences with hardware production.

annode wrote:Ok. The setting change seems not to have effected the velocity range.(the lower vels in the removed pix were a fluke.)annode wrote:I have managed to set the internal velocity down to zero!
I have just started to verify what I have done...give me 30 mins or less for this.
If it is actually working, i'll post how I did it.
It seems to have lowered the global string sensitivity...which is what we want anyway.
I'm now able to strum chords very cleanly although the picking accuracy is much better, zero setting seems to be too sensitive and getting mis-reads. (signal to noise thing)
How I did it;
- download these;
http://inspired.com/yourockguitar/updates/tools/
http://inspired.com/yourockguitar/updates/betas/
http://inspired.com/yourockguitar/updates/upgrades/
Install the QT Librarian.
Copy the YRG_ControlPanel.exe into that folder.(Program Files/YRG_App) (windows)
Run ControlPanel exe. (make sure no midi devices are running and your YRGuitar is on and connected by the USB driver...just as if you were playing the guitar)
Notice the Global settings on right.
For what it's worth, I sett the "Volume" to 127max. Click on "Set" button.
More importantly I set the "String Sensitivity" to 0 zero, which seems to be too sensitive. I'm now trying a setting of 1. (range is 0-3) Click on "Set" button.
Close app by Xing out and bring up your midi host.

My comments above were based on not only on how tiring your speculating is, but on your speculative assumption on why Inspired posted a link to that pre-alpha Control Panel on their "web-site".
I can see you have edited that idea out of your post(s). Now you've changed your original statement content, trying to make me seem like i'm weird.
No matter.

Hissss...CATFIGHT! Guys, let's get back to the issue here. Evaluation of the actual YRG under actual midi data streaming conditions vis a vis an actual DAW with VSTis. When Inspired has an actual fuctioning app, even if it is a beta, I'm sure they'll let us know.

I sat down with the guitar, the control panel, and Reason for a couple hours last night. The increased string sensitivity has been great, but there's still a few hiccups. I was doing banjo/dobro style licks and I'd get dropped notes fairly often. The polyphony was more than fine.
Could there be a bottleneck with how much midi data it can handle at a given moment?
I have an Elektron Midi Turbo i might plug it into later after I finish with work and test it with that.

Again, take it with a grain of salt, but here's some additional info:

Rock Band 3 Squier By Fender Stratocaster Guitar Controller
price TBA
Rock Band 3 Squier ControllerYeah, that's a mouthful. I suspect we'll just be calling it "the Squier." But I figured I'd include the full title just this once. This is the one peripheral we know of being made by Fender; the rest come via Mad Catz. Anyway, details:
* Fully functional, full-sized, stringed, electric guitar
* Technology built into the neck and fingerboard tracks finger positions
* Transmits strum data for each of the six strings
* MIDI output

The below quote from Mad Katz Alex Verrey also certainly seems to indicate that the pro adaptor (which is used to plug in standard midi controllers into Rock Band 3) is required to use the Squire with RB3 to control the game. This would indicate that it is indeed a midi controller, since he's referring to it in the context of midi controllers which are compatible with the pro adaptor.
////
The PRO-Adapter connects to an Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii via USB, and the MIDI instrument plugs into the port on the side of the device...
"We can't possibly guarantee compatibility with all MIDI instruments," warns Verrey, but the MIDI PRO-Adapter "should work with the vast, vast majority." Verrey guarantees compatibility with the real Fender Squier Stratocaster guitar that works with Rock Band 3, and a full MIDI instrument compatibility list will be published prior to the MIDI PRO-Adapter retail release ($40) this holiday.

Well that's the only reference to midi on the Strat anywhere. The Midi Pro can input midi from any midi source. If this is true, and the Strat is actually outputting midi, this could be the best cheap midi guitar controller yet. Though there's no indication they have a sensor neck, which means lag.

Yes, info is really scarce at this point. From the photos, it looks like sensors on the frets to me.Maruuk wrote:Well that's the only reference to midi on the Strat anywhere. Big ol +1. I would LOVE to see some more video's on how this thing tracks with various VST's. Wink wink.... nudge nudgeMaruuk wrote:Hissss...CATFIGHT! Guys, let's get back to the issue here. Hey, question to any owners, the mute bar. Does the part on the left side mute on your guitar, only the right(whammy bar side)mutes on mine. I've emailed Inspired hoping to either find out, or see if mine is faulty.
It's a cool instrument, took me a short time to get used to it. Tap mode is handy for testing with one hand. Onboard sounds are basic cheap clean electric and ugly midrange distortion. Synth sounds are like violin and slow attack wimpy stuff.

I admit i have had a look inside the YRG - I can confirm that only the Right hand side Mute bar is presently wired to the internal electronics. The left side Mute bar remains not connected to any internal electronics, and is non functional.

User Vaj has posted another example
Here's (another) improvised example of the YRG, played as a MIDI controller, through a software instrument. As with the previous example, this is a single take, and not overdubbed or multi-tracked:
