Are you in tap mode?

Everyone
I've sent a pm to Ben KVR requesting a generic guitar-controller forum. I think it's the best possible solution. That way if someone has a ztar or a yrg or a different guitar "esque" midi controller post they can bring it up in the forum.

It would be nice if you are friendly with a mod or the admin for you to ask them as well.

And that Fret-X thing really has me salivating!!!!!

I am a sucker for midi-capable guitar technology....

The Z5 is on the market it's got a wood body and is a heck of a starter ztar.

One reason that I haven't done a side by side comparision between the ztar and the YRG is that they are apples and oranges. Granted models of ztars vary greatly.

Another reason is that....
Inspired Instruments wants to be compared to other products so it gains recognition. Do you remember that "button guitar" remark when they did the first interviews? I love my buton guitar.
I'd prolly like an eigenharp alpha a heck of a lot more

and I've never played a wind instrument.

That's a really good idea, given that we're (hopefully) about to see a number of affordable units coming in, such as the Fender Squire, the YRG, and the Starr version.

Actually I think we have Rock Band 3 to thank for a lot of this. With it's "Pro Mode" or whatever the hell it's called, we may see a new market grow up with cheap, decent MIDI controllers for guitarists. Really cool.

I also posted here-

If a few of you would also like to chime in on the thread so he doesn't think it's just me. That would be great.

Wow, that eigenharp looks cool!

I don't remember the button comments, but I think the ztar buttons work well for that design. The Ztar I've got coming has the Z5 neck (it's a custom) so no buttons either (I may reget that, but I'm not much of a tapper, so I think it makes more sense for me). I may order a Mini-Z also down the line.

Both the G10 and Ztar have breath controllers, and I don't really expect the YRG to be in the same league, but I'll keep an open mind. I feel like the marketing hype really pushed the YRG as having no equal (granted, a lot of that was from certain YRG beta testers/hype men), so it will be interesting (to me anyway) to see if there's any real traction there once the rubber meets the road, or just a funny burning smell..

Wow you are fat with the cash.
I have a babyz. I hate the lack of scale length. love the pots and wish it had strings. I use the expression pads as key triggers when I play as opposed to the key triggers. It's an adaption prodess especially with the no feedback feedback. of the neck "strings" touching a string does not mean it will produce a note you need to use a little bit of force and a little more in guitar mode. Usually your playing with more force then needed, when in tap mode I'm constantly reminding myself "think light"
The neck is so much better then a yrg in my opinion...but it does take time to get used to.

90 percent of the time I'm tapping on my babyz becase it's so seductive. Ocassionally I think I've got to get an expression pedal for this thing.
Nothing is hardwired. a sensor (or the sustain/expression ports) are completely programmable.

ztars don't come equipped with breath controllers they are optional. You'll have to let harvey know before he builds it and pay/

No, tap isn't on...i'm not an idiot. haha

May I remind you guys, about this thread of mine "The You Rock Guitar" thread.
Ok, I hope your finished with your " Two of us want our own thread" posts.
I'd like to ge back to the YRG.
By the time others get home from work, my issue concerning the "writen-in" algo for hammer-ons will be 5 pages back...thanks.

I got a lame response from Cliff telling me to turn on "slide" as if that were a viable work around....not only will the fingered frets sound without a string strike, but the note will be seriously out of intonation, not to mention the YRG is now sending useless pitch data when it shouldn't send anything at all until I pick the string.

This algo, I believe, is an oversight or not finished. Think about it...someone learning to play doesn't want the string to sound if it isn't plucked/picked! But that's just what it's doing as default.

I seem to be alone on this. ???

It's probably Cubase. Never liked it. Even though the buffers are set to max low, there's gotta be still be something internal in the DAW causing this huge latency. Tried Acid for a minute late last night and even though the piano was distorted and weird (another DAW mystery nightmare), there seemed to be way less latency and I hadn't even tweaked the buffers yet.

Cubase is like all recent hardcore video games: it's become so complex and oriented to hardcore users it takes forever to navigate and troubleshoot. I want a toaster to make music on, not the Large Hadron Collider project.

At any rate though, even looking at the onboard string activation LEDs, it takes WAAAAY too much string impact to trigger a string. That was a HUGE blunder by Inspired to ship these things so far off a useable setting, and then not have an adjustment app ready at launch. Strictly Amateurville.

The slide just goes into this sickening portamento when you hammer-on from a lower fretted note. Useless.

I'll complain less when there's less to complain about, not before. Unless you want to go back to the touters gushing about how it "plays perfectly" with "no glitches whatsoever". I tell it like it is. And expect no less from everybody else in here. To the degree I can separate DAW issues from YRG issues, I will. But this POS won't even trigger ITSELF half the time.

Dload this working freeware host.
The demo won't save or record audio...all else will work and work well.
I use it all the time and all my YRG use has been through Chainer.

It's not the guitar man. Lighten up...i'll help you if you want help.
